Economy isprobably referring to the Hf motor the other is probably referring to the Dx and Si motors.

Julian

Right, probably. The HF motors and DX share the same engine code, D15A2, but the HF has smaller rods, narrower rod bearings, and narrower main bearings. Hence, you can say that the bottom end is lighter and not as "bullet proof." The DX and Si shortblocks are the same with the exception of the oil cooler on the Si.

Going to Hawaii? You need a Dune Buggy.

WTB: 14x8 or 9" Panasports or Watanabe RS.

WTB: 3g Civic hatch gauge cowl, brown.

Definately stick with these EW motors until you learn all you can performance wise. (You can easily replace these motors for cheap) With only a cam change ,you can outrun stock 16a1's (1/2 hour to change a cam). Get some head porting, add a better induction and exhaust system, a way to map your fuel and timing curve, a bigger cam (Maybe even some nitrous or forced induction) and you will be seeing 13 second 1/4's.
I am jealous of the sound you guys still have- mine lost it with the turbo. (Turbo exhaust note sucks!)

i kno i sound stupid, but what exactly do when they port and polish ur engine?

The intake and exhaust ports of the head are opened up and literally polished to allow a greater volume of air and fuel to enter and exit the head.

Power is made in the head.

The polish should not be smooth or mirror-like. The best results are obtained when the surface is rough like when you run a wire brush over it. "Polish" is a bit of a misnomer. I suppose polish means to get rid of the burrs and such in the manifold left by the molding process.

ok sweet. is this something u do on new engines or it doesnt matter. like if i bought a brand new car would i do this for better performance. it doesnt seem like. im just asking cuz i hear ppl say it after they buy an engine even if it is in ok condition.

In general, you do this to any engine to increase HP. By "you," I mean you take the car or head to a professional unless you know what you're doing. Not all engines will benefit from P&P. For example, I heard the F22 in the S2000 doesn't because it's pretty much already done from the factory, but your D15A3 will benefit, for sure.

I have a friend has done this for many years. He used a flowbench to know how much material to take off and when to stop taking off material. I think if you do this at home and just port until you think it looks nice, you could get less performance or even engine troubles for your efforts.

There is much for this young one to learn. Reach out with your feelings and read the FAQ file.

All this machine shop work can be done locally. Check your local machine shop for prices.

Vtec is never going to happen on a EW block.

1. Around $400
2. A little, not a lot.
3. No. The only one I've heard are ZC pistons with a 0.040" overbore.
4. To this date, it has not been done. Although someone is attempting this now (Eldo). It would require a lot of modification, if it can be done at all.

I've been up and down the block a few times in my CRX.

the motor is pretty fun, heres our d15a at the track before the ls motor swap. We really couldnt find a lot for it so we pulled the sucker.

http://www.patdesiato.com/movie.wmv --everything stock just totally gutted. dogged off the line a bit cause we had street tires and didn't want to just spin and launch real high.
