Car Wont Start

Turned car off went to start again. Took a min but started had plentt of power. Went two blocks shut it off. Again wouldnt start. 30 min later it started. Went two blocks it bogged down and died. I am getting fire i am getting fuel. But no start. Btw this is an 87 si. Any suggestions?

Are you push starting it? or key turn and it cranks? how do your plugs look?

Tried both. Got it figured out seems it wad a bad ignition switch. Had one in the car tried it on a hunch. Not sure how it kept it from starting tho. i was getting fire to the plugs and could smell fuel (like it was flooded) and you could hear the fuel pump was running. Btw i was stuck in a parking lot with no tools. i just happened to have another switch with me. thought i would give it a try.....she fired right off and purred like a kitten all the way home and the 50+ miles to work this a.m.

So the car did fine all the way to work. I didnt drive it until I left at 3 to go home. It ran like crap all the way to an errand I had to run then ran like crap all the way home 50 + miles got to the drive way and she died. One thing I noticed was typically the car will thow a PGMI code and then it would run great afterward. Today the symptoms were as it was about to throw the code but it never did. It bogs and spits and misses and generally runs rough and has a loss of power. Any ideas guys? this is my DD. I am starting to think that the ECU is giving out. If this is the case....what other cars will interchange with the 87 Si?

Also something else this car has done for a while may not be related but may be....The coil...If it is attached to its mount on the firewall it wont run but the moment I take it off its mount and allow it to hang freely it will run fine...

It sounds like your coil is shorting out internally- that would explain why it will run when the coil hangs free (no path to ground when hanging)

I have tried a couple of different coils and each have no affect on the problem.

ok still nothing now the car wont run for very long runs for a min but bogs down like its out of gas. The fuel is getting through the filter on the fire wall.

I pulled the passenger side seat out and checked the ECU....I am getting no lights at any point in time.

Any suggestions?

have you checked your main relay? they desolder over time.

Once i got stranded in my 86 Civic Si

Car wouldn't start even after multiple bump start tries.
I was trying to tap on the fuel pump thinking it was the fuel pump. WRONG

Next day i came back to the garage where i had accidentally taken the CEO's parking spot :o

Soldering iron in my arsenal, i took out the main relay, popped the top off and viewed the broken contacts. Soldered, popped back together and in and BOOM! First try start.

Give that guy a looksy i say!

I just swapped my ignition out in my 3g as well. The car would tend to die at lower RPMs after it was warmed up for a bit. Then it would have trouble starting again. Let the car sit and it would fire rite up.

Ok i found the main relay pulled it out did the whole resolder all the connections on it. No change. I pulled the ECU and opened up and corrosion was all over the bottom of it. I clened it up with a brass brush I had. Even cleaned one of the chips up and the lower portion of the board as well. Still no change. Got the car to fire up (after sitting for an hour or so) and it just idled poorly. I will check the timing on it tomorrow but I am certain that its dead on....Anyone else have a suggestion? The fuel pump and filters are about a year old. But they are flowing fuel.

Got the car to start today. checked the ECU had lights, PGM-FI light was lit up. On the ECU i noticed four indicators. 8421 the lights above the 4 and the 2 were on. where can i find what its indicating? Oh i started it a couple of times and it went back to its 'condition' and the light on the dash was off.

does my car stump even the 'experts'? i did a search and found two possible causes for these indications

1. faulty Ecu
2. bad crank angle sensor...

what do u guys think?
