well, about 4 years ago, i was fed up with my 88 toyota tercell, so i thought i would do something as an experiment. i wanted to empty the windshield washer fluid, fill the container with some yet unknown highly flamable fluid, and run a line to the carb, to give a quick shot of power at my finger's command. thinking abouth that, i knew nothing about mechanics at the time and i'm glad i never did that to my poor tercell which is still alive in the hands of my sister today.

anybody else ever have a hairbrained idea they're glad they never tested? or did try and wish they hadn't

I think that I can safely say, that nothing to that extent has ever went through my head to do to my car...

I have made other stupid decisions (non-car related) that I wish not to express right at the moment... dry.gif

my idea was to fill the wiper res. with water and put both the nozzles behind the radiator, then when im running hot i can spray the rad and lose temperature from evaporation. i still dont know if this will or will not work.

Oh ya, i had the idea of hooking the washer nozzles up to the inside of my fenders so they would spray onto my tires. That way i could fill the res. with bleach and to huge smoky burnouts.

I bought a '66 Mustang.... With a inline six cylinder engine. It seemed like a good idea at the time.

I bought a '68 Triumph Spitfire. It seemed like a good idea at the time.

I bought a '82 VW Cabriolet. It seemed like a good idea at the time.

I bought a '02 Toyota Camry. It seemed like a good idea at the time.

I sold a '89 Civic LX. It seemed like a good idea at the time.

I sold a '91 Accord LX. It seemed like a good idea at the time.

I never tried to do anything really stupid to any of my cars...... But adding a JATO rocket might be fun.

I haven't done anything too harebrained (other that having a stereo worth more than my car) but one of my friends with a 3g civic, started off really well. He put on a custom 2.5" inch exhaust on it, and some alloys off an 86 prelude. Then he failed...miserably. He put underbody neon on it, green underbody neon, on a red car...looked like a radioactive christmas tree. he was drilling holes for the neon, drilled through a fuel line, and caught his car on fire. Just to prove he is a bastard child, he rattle canned it silver, but on an obnoxious body kit, and a fart cannon, and is running it in the import demolition derby in town on friday. He was trying to buy my car to run in it mad.gif . I have since stopped talking to him.
There are 3 goals when modding a car.
Cheap, Reliable, and Fast.
Now the down side. You only get to pick 2...

There is a kit for this. I saw it on Jesse Jame's Monster Garage, the Mt. McKinley episode.

Going to Hawaii? You need a Dune Buggy.

My actual first car was an 86 Chevrolet Cavalier Fastback. I had the intention of fixing it up and doing a manual swap, and I am glad I never did, because that car never would have been as good as my car is now, and my car isn't even that good!

Ugh, domestic handling.

Cheers,
Mark

Ihaven't done anything stupid with the cars.. but I have two non-car related:

1. I was five. Thought I could beat a car accross the street. I didn't. Man, that was pathetic of me! Did some nice flips.. landed in some grass. 3 days in the hospital, a bruised kidney.. and I was outta there.

2. I was 10. Lot's of bees in my friends back yard. We were swatting away with a baseball bat and a tennis racket. Noticed they all seemed to be traveling the same directions. Followed one to the side of the house, saw it dive to the ground and crawl in a small hole that went through 2 pieces of cardboard. Friend says "what's that". I say (I'm so tuff) "Only one way to find out". I got stung about 18-25 times. In the side yard, in the house, in the front yard.. as I ran home. Mostly on the head, back, hands...

Now that's pathetic..
