I don't suppose anyone here has a spare Second Gen, delSol or Insight we could use to mock up the commercial, do we? Granted, the 06 CRX probably wouldn't look exactly like an insight, but we could do more 'teasing' and only show bits and pieces of the insight. Then send it in to Honda and tell them "This is how you do it" wink.gif

Damn, I couldn't have said it any better myself. And I was thinking the exact weight and motor, about 2400 lbs wit the current Civic Si 160hp motor.

2400lbs??? Why does it need to have 400-500 lbs extra? I'd be happy with a 160hp IF the car is 2000lbs or less car. Ironically the Miata crowd is asking the same thing from the 3rd gen when its released.

It isn't going to be lighter. Check the facts:

91 CRX Si was 2174 lbs, and a 96 Delsol VTEC (CRX in other countries) was 2522.

How on earth do you think Honda can bring us a car up to current regulations and safety standards 8 years later at 2000 lbs????

Imposible.

Bleeh. I hope Honda doesn't screw this up. They can't make the CRX some new, fancy, expensive, over-the-top sports car, or the whole concept that made a CRX a CRX will be lost. Man (Or woman. dry.gif ) first, then Mecha. It has to be light, it has to be quick..and most of all it has to be fairly simple.

But they'll probably do what GM's doing with the GTO, and what Ford's doing with the Thunderbird and Mustang..Turn it into a 40,000 dollar piece of crap.

Thats the problem, one of the major reasons why the CRX will never come back:

People expect too much.

AWD? 200+ HP? What for?

The CRX was a pure sports car version of the Civic. It had everthing the civic had for comfort and style, but added sports car touches like a more powerful motor, better wheels, more slung back seating, and took away econobox features like the rear seat and longer wheelbase.

It was a minimalist entry level sports car.

Now people want the car to weigh very little and have things that are totally against what the CRX stood for, like AWD and ridiculous power.

How do you expect a car to have the quality level of cars today, and still weigh as little as ours do? Unless they built them as cheaply as they used to, they will never be the same. And yes, by todays standards, our cars are cheap, you can't get away from it. Our cars would never pass safety standards of today, no way, not a chance.

The only way the CRX will ever be back is if it comes in the form of a 2500+ lbs. 2 seater car that puts a focus on handling, not power, but has just enough to get it going quick.

Otherwise its not a real CRX.

Cheers,
Mark

don't forget that one of the primary selling points (the actual reasons a carmaker makes a car) was it's gas mileage, not it's sports-car potential.

the crx was primarily sold as the Insight is now: economical commuter mobile.

the SI version was the only one sold as an affordable "sportscar."

Yes do look at the elise becouse its in the us weigh's 2100lbs I think and has the toyota 1.8 vvti 190hp. This car would eat a nsx. The new crx could be this light but it would have to be alluminium like the nsx but would drive the cost up. I would like to see the car at 2500lbs with a fit motor in it and sell it for like 15,000.00. Mugen just put a r spec k20 in a fit that made 260hp. Honda could use there factory performance thing and let you order the car with the motor you want and brake upgrades etc etc.
There's people that dont know and people that don't know they don't KNOW!!

True. But I'd be happy with a 160hp 2100 crx over a 190hp 2600hp one - screw AWD, not needed and just extra weight.

The harsh reality is they are only getting bigger and heavier - I just have a serious case of denial.
