I read that the Si tranny has shorter gears than the DX transmission. How feasible is it to swap that tranny into my DX? What clutch would I use? Do the shifter cables/rods connect the same way? Has anyone done the swap and is there a noticeble performance gain?
Also, regarding clutches, I think mine is going out. Does anyone have a recommendation for either a cheap aftermarket clutch or a cheap place to buy an OEM clutch?

The only difference is the final drive ratio, 4.26:1; DX and 4.428:1; Si. All the other gears ratios are the same.
Short answer, you 'will' notice the difference.
As for clutches, a stock one can handle a lot more power than a mildy modified motor can put out. Myself and Greg Gauper, have been using stock ones in our race cars for a few years with no problems or slippage. I've used clutches from the local autoparts store with no problems.

If you love the Elise, drive a Se7en - Caterham or whatever...
It has even less content than the Elise, is less graceful looking
...and changes direction like a ping pong ball whacked by Thor.
