Autocross season started this last weekend. Mid South SCCA was at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium tan lot.
IT was rainy and cold, so we had a poor turnout of 16 drivers each day. It dried up enough by start time that times were good and by the last run group the course was dry.
I ended up 10th in raw and 12th in PAX on Saturday, mainly because I only had two runs before I had to bow out with a mechanical. I repaired it successfully that afternoon and returned Sunday to claim the 2nd spot in raw and 5th in PAX.
Top raw time was an HS Fiesta ST.
After my suspension modeling and cyphering over the winter, I'm prepared to say my setup seems like a success so far. I'll wait for the photos to come out so I can see how much body roll there was. But the car was fairly neutral handling, with mid corner to corner exit understeer and oversteer if I jerked the wheel. It was definitely quick - I was still dropping .5 to 1 second per run when I ran out of runs: 44.1, 43.4 +1, 42.6 +2, 42.1 +1, 42.5, 42.0, 41.4 +1, 41.1
Nothing coming up this weekend outside. My son and I are running the indoor AEKC kart league this season and this Saturday is the big finally. We're both in 3rd overall in points and he just got his first win last week.
