Wow...I've had it back on the road now for awhile, but since you bring it back up I'll tell you what happened in hopes it might help someone else with the same issue.
First I made Rockauto send me MATCHING pressure plate and disc from LUK. This took care of the disc springs rubbing but didn't help with the engagement issue. I got some flywheel shims and installed them in hopes that this would do it...nope...still wouldn't work. So, I finally gave up on the NEW flywheel that I got from Rockauto, had the old one re-surfaced,installed the .025 flywheel shim and buttoned it up for the 4th time I beleive(?)and it started to work...however...I had to continually readjust the NEW clutch cable over the course of the next couple of weeks to keep it working correctly due to stretch I assume(?). I think I have adjusted it again a couple of times between then and now and I will say that the "feel" of the clutch is NOT the same as it was before this came about...final conclusion is that a lot of NEW parts are NOT what they used to be!

Wow its funny I found this topic. I did a clutch in my 87 si last weekend and ran into the same problem. The clutch would not disengage. Like you I did a new flywheel and clutch kit. I had that trans apart 3 times before I finally put the old flywheel and pressure plate back on and the car behaved itself. At this point I wasn't sure if it was a flywheel issue or a pp issue.
