anyone got a pic of the 84-87 crx driver's mount, specifically the bracket that attaches to the block??

The manual does not show a good pic

Would really appreciate the help.

Here's the mount. It's not actually bolted to a 1G engine, not sure what you are looking for.

are you trying to modify the mount for a d16a1 or brn top zc swap?

that's the exact pic i was looking for. I want to put in a sohc vtec.

rpr: you guys have to cut off the top leg of the teg inter. shaft right?

also, how's the engine sit in the bay with this setup:
crx driver's mount and bracket
86-89 teg trans
86-89 teg trans mounts

just curious, any times on the quarter mile?
tired of turbo
want to build all motor sohc vtec

thanks for your help

I am putting an SOHC ZC in. That mount will have to be cut, shortened, and welded back together, but that's minor compared to the other mounts... smile.gif

What engine are you referring to with the teg mounts?

nevermind the teg mount, i had it lying around and tried to line up the bracket holes on the 92+ sohc motor, that's all.

Sorry, I was referring to the d16y8 or d16z6 engine. The only mount I am worried about is the driver's mount pictured there in your pic.

My plan:
d16a1 trans, intermediate shaft, and axles, trans mount, and rear trans mount and bracket
d15a3 driver's mount and bracket: the d15a3 driver's mount and bracket bolt on the 88+ sohc motors (2 out of 3 as pictured, *I will drill the bracket to allow a 3rd bolt)

my big question: does the driver's mount reach the driver's chassis mount location?

I need some info on the picture you posted.
can you pass the bolt through the driver's mount while in the chassis mount?
what trans and motor is that

if my plans are differen than yours, have you ever tried mine?

thanks bro

My plan: SOHC ZC (same as D16A6) with S20/VTi tranny (same as 92+ Civic). The drivers side mount in the picture is in the stock location, with stock bolt, and is in fact bolted in:

There are more pics of the mounts we've done here.

I don't think you will have any luck bolting the D16A1 tranny to those engines. I tried putting the S20 on a D16A1 engine, and it didn't work, so the reverse would also be true. As for axles, I'm thinking I won't be able to use a halfshaft so I'm probably going to end up using some kind of hybrid 3G/4G axle.

nice job on the fabbing. what clutch and flywheel combo did you try when attempting the s20 on the d16a1? what problems did you run into?

I'm thinking i can just bolt the d16a1 flywheel/clutch combo on the z6 or y8 crank.

I will try to bolt up a d16a1 trans to a d15b today and take pics for all.

thanks for the pics. Nice Porter Cable. what model #?

I found that the S20 tranny mostly bolted up to the A1 engine. I could deal with the problems there. The problem I had was that the starter did not engage the flywheel at all. I could see up through the housing that it wasn't even close to engaging. That was with the A1 flywheel. I have a Z6 flywheel, but never got around to trying it. The ZC I have is in WAAAYYY better condition than the A1, so I don't feel so bad dumping it. Plus, this swap allows me to do other D series swaps in the future.

As for the compressor, not sure of the model, I just know it's powerful, and relatively quiet... smile.gif

just got back from fooling around with the parts

the a1 trans bolts up to the d15b block 4 of 5 bolts. the rear bolt that goes through the block and to the trans is half off and wont go. the 4 are perfect.

the input shaft of the a1 has 21 teeth
the input of the s20 has 20 teeth

the a1 input has a bigger diameter contact to the pilot bearing thus you must use the a1 flywheel, pilot bearing, disc, and pressure plate.

the long starter bolt hole does not match the d15b block threaded hole =

my theory: tap the hole on the a1 trans to accept a bolt like the short starter bolt.
just have to actually do it. pretty sure the a1 starter will engage with the a1 flywheel because everything else is lined up.

NEXT: find my spare a1 flywheel and starter and actually prove it.

NOTE: the d15b8 block i was playing with, does not have the holes for the intermediate shaft. DOES anyone KNOW if the z6 or y8 blocks have them like the 88-91 a6 blocks do? (see pic)

just found out through some research:

USDM: a6 motors have the holes for Inter. shaft threaded already
USDM: z6, y8 motors have the holes for Inter. shaft, BUT need to be tapped .

I will test the a1 flywheel / starter idea and verify the above info on some motors laying around.

CROSS your fingers...

oh, and both dowels for the tranny line up with no problem.

Those were my findings as well. I also ran into problems with the thermostat housing, nothing a grinder couldn't solve. I'd like to hear if the A1 stuff works.

UPDATE: y8 motors only have 2 holes of the three for the mount
looks like this . .
not this . :

And there is no spot to tap for the third. sad.gif

i hope 2 will be okay with loctite

both z6 and y8 have the intermediate shaft bolt holes, havn't actually tried to bolt one up yet, probably this week

same time i try the shaft, i will try the flywheel and starter
