Fact: A recent study shows that 92% of all teenagers have turned Emo.

Put this in your sig if you're one of the 8% who stayed gangster as $h!t.

Thank you.

Yes, I've heard that some peeps have issues w/the pg, I've also heard a lot do not. At the hp levels I'll be running the d16 at, I'm hoping I won't...we'll see as I'll be running the car hard at ax's and ot events.

I'd really like a Quaife or Torsen lsd, but, 1. haven't looked into whether either company makes one for the d16a1 tranny and, 2. (to be honest) I don't want to pay what those lsd units would cost blink.gif right now. At $220 delivered, the pg is the compromise for the moment.

what do you use for cleaning motors?

First plug ALL open ports (even the spark plug holes in the valve cover) w/cap plugs, wadded up plastic bags, corks, stoppers or whatever will keep the cleaner and water OUT of the engine. Then roll the engine outside (having it on a stand helps)...spray on Gunk Foamy Engine cleaner or similar...coat the entire engine (if you've spent the time sealing the engine up, nothing will get inside). Then scrub the cleaner covered engine w/brushes of your choice...I use a wheel brush for the big areas, and tootbrushes for the small nooks and crannies! Hose the cleaner off w/water. I did this twice, then turned the eng upside down on the stand to let the water drain off of it and then rolled it back in the garage. Doing the above cleans the majority of the grunge off and took ~ 1hr.

I then spent another 1.5 hrs in the garage cleaning all the nooks and crannies out w/a small toothbrush and Q-tips dipped in PPG's DX330 (it's an autobody prepaint degreaser/cleaner)...common mineral sprits (paint thinner) will also work. Don't laugh, but, toothbrushes & Q-tips really work well...just don't brush your teeth or clean your ears out afterwards! blink.gif

Anyway, no big secrets in cleaning the motor, just time and elbow grease...and, yeah, being 'anal' helps too! rolleyes.gif

Cheers! cool.gif

Baby's got a brand new set of shoes! biggrin.gif

'99 Miata 14x6 wheels: 12.5 lbs/ea, center hub bored to 56.10 mm Honda size (54.06 mm is the Mazda hub size). $188/4

Toyo Proxes: T1R 195 45 14; $380/4 => shipped, mounted & balanced.

Wheel/Tire Total = $568

Rolling diameter = 20.9" ...that's ~1.8" smaller in rolling diameter; makes for lower gearing for better acceleration on the ax course...cool! cool.gif

Wheel/tire = 27 lbs. ...that compares w/the 29.5 lb. oem 13" steelies that they'll replace biggrin.gif ...that's a 2.5 lbs per corner lighter...sweet! biggrin.gif

Cheers! cool.gif

More weight savings:

Removed the front bumper cover to expose the 5 mph steel front bumper beam:

...20 lbs. of steel beam and struts:

I started chopping off everything that I didn't need to mount the bumper and/or maintain it's shape:

...and ended up w/only this:

I welded up some 1 x 1 x .065 RHS steel to replace the 6 lb. blink.gif struts. These turned out weighing only 1 lb. for the pair!

The new, light wt struts mounted on the car:

All the pieces to the new light weight front bumper "beam" on the scale: 4.5 lbs. total...a 15.5 lb. reduction!

The new front bumper "beam" installed. I left the bumper's upper stiffener intact to help maintain the bumper's shape:

The 15.5 lbs. I removed, ready for the scrap heap!

I'll do the same thing to the rear bumper for more weight reduction!

Cheers! cool.gif
