I bought my 1g rex because i was sick of driving this gas guzzling blazer...

, i drove by and saw a cool 88 mustang 5.0 coupe and thought id try and trade the guy for it but he said no and showed me this little white car that got "superb gas mileage". So ten minutes later i drove home in the car. End of story, i had never seen a car like it so i thought it would be cool to have, halfway through i wished i wouldnt have gotten it because of not being able to find parts, but since the swap, i wouldnt go back if i could!

I needed a cheap vehicle, my stepdad worked at a carlot. He said he had a couple cars that were traded in that he would sell me cheap. One was a burnt-orange Pinto wagon with imitation woodgrain on the sides, the other was a white 86 crx si.... easy choice. From there I was hooked.
THEN: soon after that : next in order of time, position, narration, or enumeration <walked to the door, then turned><first came the clowns, and then came the elephants>

THAN: used as a function word to indicate difference of kind, manner, or identity ; used especially with some adjectives and adverbs that express diversity <anywhere else than at home><older than I am> <easier said than done>

my first crx belonged to my best friend. he was a vietnam vet who was affected by agent orange. he died (RIP Robi!!!)and his wife said she was gonna put a for sale sign on it a few months later. i couldnt stand the thought of someone else owning his car. i asked how much she wanted and she said i dont know 500. i said ok, are you sure? then she said well, id like to get a house payment. i said ok, how much? she said 650. i told her no problem.

I fell in love with the crx when I saw a crx add in 84 but thought I would never be able to afford a new car(I was 15) But the next year 2 weeks before I got my license I found a lady going through a devorse. She sold it to me for under blue book and a crx is all I've ever driven as my primary car for 20 years.

hopefully ill be thinking exactly that in 10 years when im driving an 05 Infiniti G35 6 speed coupe(my dream car)! I always think about that, in 10 years an 05 G35 will be nothing fancy or expensive and i would be able to afford it.

    • Drives: 1987 CRX DX. Upgrades (so far) Illuminas on all four corners, new rims & tires & Eldo's carb mod. Needs some rust repair. 1993 Civic Si as a daily driver that I have sworn to keep stock (so $$ can go to the CRX).
I was looking to get a car after my dad totaled the family car & decided he wasn't going to replace it.
I knew nothing about cars but I'd always liked hatches & was looking at either a VW GTI or an EF hatch. After reading some reviews on carreview.com I decided on the Honda as the VWs didn't seem to have good reviews in terms of reliability (VW reviews went: Great car, fun to drive but this failed, that failed, had to replace the electrical system, etc. The Honda reviews went: Great car, fun to drive, I'm going to replace it when it dies but it just won't die...).
I was looking at hatches, happened to see a CRX listed in the same category & fell in love with the look. I bought my 87 DX without knowing the diff between the 1G & 2G it was just in the right price range & now I have the CRX bug...

My car was my grandmothers from new, and when she gave up driving a couple years ago, she gave it to me to take the place of my mustang, i promptly ran out looking for neons and eurotails...at which point...i found rpr, and have been here ever since
There are 3 goals when modding a car.
Cheap, Reliable, and Fast.
Now the down side. You only get to pick 2...

Well, my reason goes something like this.

I had received a free 1979 Dautsun 510 a few weeks before (take into consideration I did not have a license then, or when I bought my CRX), it needed very slight mechanical work, but to restore it well enough, that would have been a real task. I had my eye on a car at my mechanics garage, it had been sitting a while, a red Honda CRX. At the time, I knew *nothing* about CRX's, I didn't find out it was a first generation until I bought it as well, I had been looking at parts fo 1988 crx's as I was under the impression it was an 88 DX, but what it was, was an 84 DX, I checked the vin before buying it and found that before he told me. When I saw it, I loved it! It looked sporty, but reserved, it looked easy, and it was a Honda, a car that was cheap, and would run forever. It had just had a bit of work done to it, and it was to be sold for $1500. I caught the owner on a day he had just won quite a bit at a local casino, I offered $800. I had no time to get a bluebook really, around here, that $1500 would have been a steal! Now, the car's interior was faded, the dash brown with dust/dirt, and it was full of trash and missing all the rear interior, a brake light out, cracked windscreen, and when it was being driven home, the clutch came apart pulling out from the garage. I paid $800 for this wink.gif and I was glad! I still like the look of the car. It sat a long time before I got my license, had a new clutch put in, carb adjustment, ect, ect, ect ( its never ending! tongue.gif )

Today in particular is a good example of this "ect" bit wink.gif both drivers side tires separated, and upon pulling the front wheel, the CV boot is freshly torn, that’s.. $235, 200$ for tires I’ll need to be buying, and all of my shocks/struts are absolutely, and completely shot... Koni time!

that's how I got mine, I have had it... I guess, a yearish, it's gone from dirty, to shiny, and it runs so well smile.gif

Moved to VA, wanted a daily driver that I could autocross for less that $3000. Couldn't find any Toyotas locally that fit my needs. Found a very clean 87 Civic Si with 70K miles on it. The rest is history and still got the car, although no longer a daily driver.

I was at the dealer buying parts for my '84 DX Hatch, and happened to notice a new '86 CRX Si on the lot. By then I'd been out of college and working at my new job for six months, so I felt I could swing the whopping $10,000 for a sporty new car. 20 years, 3 timing belts, and 193K miles later I still have it as my daily driver, crappy "Greek White" paint and all.

i was actually looking for a motorcycle for my brother when i saw it advertised for just $350. so i called them and got it for $250. signed the papers and was almost out of their house, when they remembered i hadn't actually given them any money for it yet... so close biggrin.gif.

i wanted a crx since forever; other people wanted vipers and skylines and i wanted a crx. so i guess it was just a spur-of-the-moment purchase of my dream car.

now my brother has his own crx too. laugh.gif

Most people i know that ride in my car want to get one. my dad especially, as he bought a brand new CRX DX in 87 and wrecked it a few months later....i will probably sell it to him for $1500 eventually
