never park your 82 buick riviara with a blown reverse gear facing forwards towards a curb or a wall.... rolleyes.gif

i had popped the reverse gear in the tranny (they are chaindrive transmisions) and i was doing deliveries and underground taxi and i kept forgetting that i had no reverse gear. friggin car was HEAVY!!!

V8, FWD, no power steering, no reverse gear and i weigh 125lbs if i'm lucky... mad.gif

i hated that car.

If your car won't start, and once you jump it, the car acts possessed by a demon (tach flutters between 3 and 8k BUT doesn't match the actual fluctuating engine RPM), dash lights flicker, stalls, sputters, sucks in general, be warned. Check the battery and do a smell test. If the battery is either smoking or smells like rotten eggs (sulfur) if can and may explode. It may also mean the water has boiled completely out of the battery and the plates are fried, so do yourself a favor and have your alternator checked for overcharging due to a broken voltage regulator. With a multimeter, output at the battery terminals should be 12.5-13.5v w/ the car off and 13.5-14.5v at idle. Just a heads up from my weekend. Mak

PS. sulfuric acid burns smart quite a bit. Cold running water is the first remedy.

Work all of the knobs, levers and switches in the whole car every two weeks,
even if it is not the time of year to do so.

Rinse the underside of your car about every 3 times that you wash the upper side.

always carry a tube of quick steel, this stuff is great on cracked (holes) radiators, busted pans. Also a set of jumper cables tied together with two batteries can act as a welder, i also keep a package of tire plugs as well just in case i pick up a nail. In the winter time i keep a milk crate full of straps and log chains and carry my hi-lift. works as a great winch.
