Nice! Ya seems like good power on RBB regardless.. Want to get the most out of my k24. What other intake manifolds did you guys try? I'd like to try the Ultra street if it can fit, or just the normal skunk2 pro series.

We only tried the RBB and RBC.

I know Magoon is running a Skunk I asked if he would come share what he is seeing on clearance.

Yep! looks like he's using a skunk2 ultra street..awesome. I prefer my engine to be at the higher position to get the most ground clearance, I wonder if he has his set lower to make room for that intake, I'll find out.

Yep he's using the street manifold on a k20. He mentioned the deck height differences using a k24 might cause it to touch the upper support with the mounts set to the high position... I'll decide once I get there if I want to notch the support or just go with a rbc/pro series. Knowing me I like to take risks sooo. Sounds like he might do so measuring so we have that info.

Perfect,  he told me he shared his experience and thoughts.  Defiantly going to be tight on the high setting.

Haven’t updated in a while but ran into a struggle getting the car to pass emissions testing at the end of November. Here in AZ cars older than 1996 have to go on the rollers and they simulate driving while sniffing the tail pipe. After 4 tests we passed!

1st test passed everything with the exception of the NoX. It was twice as high as was allowed. i was a bit worried since I have a 200 cell high flow cat on the car. Had my buddy look over the tune and he found the driving section was a mess. Tuner was lazy in this area and didn’t do much for drivability so he made some tweaks to the tune. He said he didn’t feel I had a chance of passing with the 200 cell cat but figured I would give it a try.

2nd test with new tune just barely failed NoX by .28! Ugggggg. So found a CARB legal cat that would fit the space, more V Bands, and had the shop that did the exhaust weld up the new cat for a 3rd try.

3rd test, while driving to the testing facility I noticed the AFRs are all over the place. Lean then rich and just acting odd. I can see the AFRs on my AIM Solo DL. We didn’t touch the O2 while welding up the new cat. When we first tuned the car the O2 acted odd and very lazy. But seemed to be fine afterwards. Get to the testing facility and now pass NOX easily but totally fail HC and CO. CO was almost 4x what was allowed.

4th test, barrow an O2 from a friend and find it reads just fine so run back to testing facility and pass with ease.

Now the O2 was a Denso and I purchased it from Amazon. On the Amazon site it says to reach out to Denso and provides like to their site for warranty issues. I reach out to Denso and they advise that Amazon is not an authorized Denso dealer so they can’t help me I have to go back to Amazon. Call Amazon tell them the issue, what Denso said and that it has less than 200 miles on it. Their response was sorry your passed the return date by a couple of weeks. I told them the part was purchased in advance of use and I could prove when it was installed. They didn’t care so $150 in the trash and purchased a new one from the local parts store that is a dealer. Buyer beware!

now that this is behind us rebuilding calipers and trying to make the next track day on the 13th!

What a PITA.  I’m all in on saving the environment….   But the car is over 25 yrs old….  Sucks ur area can’t exempt it….

I remember doing those tail pipe tests last decade

There is a way around it here in our county.  Have to get historic plates and get collector car insurance.  We did this on the 85.  Have been avoiding it because I have a plate style the state no longer uses and it’s vanity.  Plus I get a multi car discount for our primary vehicle.  All this said we solved the how to pass riddle now so should not be an issue assuming they can drive it on the rollers.

Good deal on classic plate approach

A big push from the states for inspections stems from federal Highway construction funds.  States need to manage emission levels to EPA guidelines to keep fed subsidies.     In TX, we only have emission testing and hov lanes around Dallas, ft worth, Houston, San Antonio, Austin.   If you own a non compliance car in the other 90% of Texas, ur fine
