Hey guys, heading to the yard tomorrow, wondering which gear is the 5th gear to pull. I have one on the mainshaft labeled 5th and one on the countershaft labeled 5th. Pull which one or both?

Both, one won't work without the other.

If you love the Elise, drive a Se7en - Caterham or whatever...
It has even less content than the Elise, is less graceful looking
...and changes direction like a ping pong ball whacked by Thor.

I took apart one trans and it definitely was not an HF, must have been swaped somewhere down the road. The other one I messed with was, so question, if I pull the end cap off the tranny, pictured # 3 in this link

Is this where the 5th gears reside? Not in the main case with gears 1-4? This is what I pulled, this is the side facing into the tranny. I don't think they charged me for them so if it's wrong I'll go pull the right ones. There are 19 teeth on the small gear and 29 teeth on the larger gear.

The fifth gear set resides under that outside cover, so you are looking in the right place...I count those gears in the picture above and I get the same numbers and that is a gear set from an HF - 0.655 ratio.
