you have to be very careful about dehydration.

Tom, your car has an Autopower cage? Hmm, mine's a bolt in, but the rear hoop mounts on the top shelf, not on the floor pan behind the seat. I like what you did with the door bars... hopefullly I can do something like that, but with the main hoop being up and inbound of the forward down bar, I probably will have to do a X type bar on the drivers side. We will be welding in the rest of the cage and adding a dash bar.

I will try to snap some pics this week of what I have, and what we finish with next week.

read the rules very carefully. it seems like some x bars don't meet the rules.

can you add some mounting plate down on the front side of the "shelf" and then run a bar from it to the A pillar bar in front?

not sure that makes sense or not. what i am thinking is having the lower of the two bars coming from the mounting plate six or so inches below the roll bar and the top side bar coming just at the bottom of the roll bar.

i think the rules are somewhat different on the mounting plates this year. also, if your car is old enough, the 144 sq. inches doesn't really apply, imho.

when the 144 sq in rule came out, if you read it carefully, it said that cars that were registered after xxx date were limited. it did not say that all cars after that date could not have that many sq inches.

i asked around and it was considered a loop hole that with an old chassis and an old log book, you could exceed the 144 inches even though it was done after the rule......

i never did this because it seems that i am typically meeting the minimums due to time/money/lazy considerations.

the above is my opinion but read this rule stuff carefully.

Well the honda is what the honda is... but the log book is about 6 or 7 years old (not in front of me), so I don't know if I can get around any loophole with mounting plates. I can visualize what you are describing, however I want to avoid using mounting plate as the car is at the minimum weight now, and I plan to add a dash bar. Not to mention, short of rmoving the door glass and panel I don't know where I'm going to find extra weight to remove.

Fortunatly, the Chief of Tech keeps all his projects at the same shop I rent space at, so getting answers or opinions usually isn't that difficult.

Thanks for all the info and pics.

I was talking with my cage builder more about this over the summer and he suggested that it might be less expensive to sell my autopower bolt in cage and put a new, custom cage into the car. Any ideas on what a used Autopower cage would sell for??

Since I run an open trailer, I want to retain the windows in the car which will limit how far into the doors my side bars can go.

There was also a nice thread on www.improvedtouring.com recently talking about the pros and cons of different styles of door bars.
