Hello all!

I've been a lurking RPR member for several years, but I've been so busy, I've never been able to tear into my CRX. Well, now that I finally got a job that has consistent hours, so I have some time to restore the little bugger. The name "Skittle" came from my wife. She hate's hatchbacks for some odd reason and decided to call it "skittle". I like skittles, so I took it as a compliment. :) I've owned the car since 2008 and I've put almost 40k miles on it... making it's grand total just north of 300k. Yes, and it still runs great! Here's some background on the car...

The car: "SKITTLE"

Posted Image

He was sold to a friend's family in San Francisco in 1988. It was handed down through the family as the years passed until it reach my friend;s friend, and thankfully those who owned it prior to him, lived in the southwest... no rust!! (until I bought it and took it to Illinois) I first encountered the car when I was at a friends house. My friend's friends drove up from Tennessee without stopping, and I couldn't believe it! I instantly fell in love with the car and told him, that if he were ever to get rid of it, call me. This was in 2001. Seven years later, he calls me up and offers me the car... I bought it from him instantly. Then my wife and I drove down, picked up the car from Tennessee and we drove it straight back. The car is indestructible. I drove it from Illinois to Atlanta on shot wheel bearings, and it never skipped a beat. Now that it's not my daily driver anymore, it can be my track toy!

The project:

The goal is to get it back on the road and slowly modify it as I go, with the hopes of it becoming a full-time track car. Living near a world class road-course helps with my motivation! :) I figured I'd start a thread on my project considering the fact that I've been bugging everyone for parts, so here's why I've been on a crazy parts hunt... I hope you all enjoy this project as much as I will.

I will post details on suspension setup, engine, custom modifications, as I go.

So far, I've stripped the interior, minus the dash, and I've also pulled all the plastic off the exterior. At the moment I'm taking care of the rust the developed while I was living in Illinois.

Well, it didn't take long, but things have taken a different turn on this project. I was surfing craigslist for parts for this project when I came across this...

http://atlanta.craig...2912342831.html

Immediately after soiling myself (figuratively), I began making plans for a trip to see this car. I haven't seen many DOHC ZC engines that are carbed, especially in a 1g CRX. The car turned out to be one of the cleanest 1gs I've seen. It happened to be filthy and had been sitting under a couple trees for a year, but the body and interior are perfect. So, after two epic journeys to the middle of no-where, I now have a new project car. Don't worry, you will still see Skittle on RPR. I'm selling it to my best friend who is a new RPR member. I will have more pics and details coming soon!!

Alright, here is the new project car:

Same identical model as my original car ('87 CRX HF) but with a fairly rare JDM "carbed" ZC with a weber carb on it. The previous owner dropped the front end, but that's as far as he got. He said he test drove it a couple times, and then couldn't figure out why it didn't run smoothly, so he parked it... until I got it. Odd.

I pulled it out of the garage after work today and scrubbed the mold, pollen, and all manner of plant matter off the car. Cleans up pretty nice!

I now have to start reassembling "Skittle" so I can sell him to my friend, and get started on this little gem!

Yeah, I really wasn't sure what I was looking at the first time I went to see the car because I had never seen a early ZC with a carb. After a little research, I realized how rare that motor is. I'm definitely going to need some help with it as the project continues because there isn't a lot of info out there on these motors, so if there's anyone who knows these engines well, let me know. The engine turns over perfectly, but I dont want to fire it up until I get a chance to check it over.

Here's another shot of the engine.

Good eyes there Rollz! It's missing a vacuum line to the advance on the distributor, and the fuel pump isn't working, and it was never properly mounted. Thanks! The more I look for info on these motors, the less luck I'm having finding anything. Any info on these motors would be greatly appreciated!!

Progress Note:

Started digging into the untouched interior. It was a shame that I had to take it apart because all the plastic was completely in-tacked. It had all the little round screw covers and had very little damage, that is until I started taking it apart. All the plastic caps shattered when I tried to pop them off. Sad. Anyway, things are coming along fine. I'm putting together "Skittle" so he can take the trip back to Illinois where he will assume new ownership and become someone else's project. :) After that happens, I can really get to work on the ZC Rex.

Rodent activity. Yum.

This is what happens when you let your car sit outside under a bunch of trees for a year.
