I have a problem with my 3g Civic. I swapped engine, tranny, driveshafts and knuckels etc. from 87 CRX AS with ZC1 and now my outer cv-joint started knocking. I bought new one from CRX/CIVIC 1.6-16v DOHC 88-91 because all part cataloques said its the same part and it'll fit.

It looked the same, and I measured it to be sure, but with this new joint my bearing/hub is stuck.

So is it the same joint, and if not, where u guys have bought yours ?

Thanks !

If your car is from model year 1987 or older a part from 1988 or newer is not likely to fit.

So - you swapped in everything form the ZC setup into your car and you had a CV joint that was knocking when you drove it correct?  Did it only do it when turning or did it do it in a straight line too?  Was the boot ripped open?

Then you replaced that axle with a 88-91 DOHC Civic axle - correct?  And now the wheel will not turn?  You don't have a stuck rotor?  Splines on both axles are identical; diameter and number of splines and length of the splines? You didn't over tighten the axle nut did you?  Transmission in gear?

Thanks for replying!

Yes, I swapped everything from donorcar. And I drove 1000km with my car with no issues, before cv-joint started knocking when u turn and and accelerate at same time. So normal behaviour from worn outer cv-joint and I think it worned out faster because donorcar were stock height and my car is pretty slammed.

But my issue now is that all partcataloques tell me that outer cv-joints are the same in 86-87 and 87-91 models with D16/ZC engine. And I bought 87-91 cv-joint and when I tightened the bolt to the hub/bearing, the bearing went to stuck, but when I loosened it a little bit it worked fine but at the same time bearing were too loose to drive with.

Is there a possibility that some part manufacturers do have a little difference with the shape on joint and thats why it went stuck? Because all splines and diameters were the same with old and new cv-joints...

And I have manual 5-spd tranny and donor car were edm CRX AS5 with ZC1 engine.

I bought brand new GLO cv-joint and it fitted perfectly. So there seems to be small differences between different manufacturers cv-joint shape... So ZC powered CRX/Civic ED use the same cv-joint that 86-87 CRX ZC1 :) Now car runs good and smooth.
