85 Si and it died at a stop light. Car was running perfectly before up until then.

I assumed it was was the fuel pump. I've been waiting for it to die on me (Airtex) I could still hear it I just thought it wasn't giving enough pressure.
Replaced it with another airtex only because it was in stock and I wanted it running asap while I then have time to order a quality pump.

Is it possible for a brand new pump be bad?
There is spark.
Relay is jumped so that's not an issue.
Ground at thermostat is fine.

Where and how are you grounding it?

I haven't installed my fuel pump yet, but I believe there should be a ground wire coming off the pump.  I was reading up on how to wire in a start/stop switch on mine and came across this link (http://www.how-to-bu...-fuel-pump.html) that said grounding can be a big issue for electric pumps.  Give it a read through and take a look at your pump to see if there is a ground wire coming from it.

There are many grounding points all around your car, and you can use pretty much any point where you're connecting to the bare chassis.  He mentions using a star washer, and that is so it penetrates through the paint and into the metal.

Edit:  Might want to check your main relay too.  They're known to crap out and I believe they control your fuel pump.  It's under your dash, on the left hand side of the steering wheel (iirc).  Give it a few taps and try to start the car.  Should be a black box that's roughly 2"x3.5"x 3" or so.

Thanks. I got it running. Hooked up a fuel pressure gauge, 41 psi. Exactly where it should be.

At the fuel pump there's only the two connectors. The fuel pump/fuel injection is grounded on the thermostat housing.

The problem was the ecu fuse and the ground at the thermostat.
