It's getting that time of year again. 90 was the high today in SoCal.

So I need to get my A/C working, and on r134.

I did this with my '84 before so I pretty much know what to do. (Worked well until one day the high pressure side exploded at the viewglass)

Had the day off so I started to take apart the A/C system so it'll be ready once I get all the stuff I need.

-Orings

-Dryer

-Expansion Valve

-Adapters

-Ester oil w/ dye

-I'll probably have the hoses rebuilt aswell.

-The belt pulley needs a new bearing

-Take to local ac shop for vaccum/fill

Okay well my problem is that I have the Keihin this time and I have not heard any good from it, especially with r134.

So is the Keihin out of the question here?

Anyone had any luck using this compressor?

I guess I'll take a trip to the junkyard and pick up a Sanden bracket and hoses. That's everything I need right?

And I've some fairly inexpensive reman Sandens on ebay...

The Keihin is not recommended for 134 use, they ruin quick.
For the sanden you will need the bracket and hi&low pressure hoses.

Richard is corecto!

Richard, I have some time in the am, I'll scan the rad wiring diagrams and look over my harness. my biz is seasonal, and tiz the season.

from my readings on r12 vs r134a, the molecule in 134a is heavier, but smaller. so the leak rate through our old r12 hoses will best faster = more frequent recharge. my Keihnen was working off 12 up Intel a few years ago. I guess the key is to get a rebuild kit for the compressor for 134. apparently, the mineral oil in 12 carries better through the system vs the pag oil in 134. based on that, I assume 12 systems should last longer than 134. never used 134 in my crx, so no true experience here to help you.

check for Black Death in the hoses and tubes. I believe if you run 134 in a 12 system, the orings swell. they might cake off and mix black rubber particles throughout the system. easy to check wiping a q tip, or the sight glass will be dark.

so did I understand the post correctly, and a high pressure condition blew the glass out of the sight glass? if so, you must change the hi,low switch and find out why it happened
