Topics I've Started

Died Again.

22 August 2014 - 08:52 PM

Sunday my 85 Si died at a red. That ended up being the 15 amp ecu fuse. I don't know why it blew. But I popped in another and we were good.

Up until yesterday we were good all day until right after I gased up (I don't think it's related) A few miles later the car died while driving but I was able to start it back up again. A few minutes later she died again and I pulled to the side of the road. She would crank but no start. I let it sit for a while then she started right up. And the same thing happened once more before I got her home. And this morning everything was good until after a few short trips. And now she won't start at all.

I was thinking ignition control module but I just checked with an old plug and there was spark. Pump is working. Fuse is still good. On Monday fuel pressure was at 41 psi I don't know if anything has changed since then.
Tomorrow I will check everything over. But any ideas on where to start?

Bad Airtex Pump?

17 August 2014 - 09:13 PM

85 Si and it died at a stop light. Car was running perfectly before up until then.

I assumed it was was the fuel pump. I've been waiting for it to die on me (Airtex) I could still hear it I just thought it wasn't giving enough pressure.
Replaced it with another airtex only because it was in stock and I wanted it running asap while I then have time to order a quality pump.

Is it possible for a brand new pump be bad?
There is spark.
Relay is jumped so that's not an issue.
Ground at thermostat is fine.

Sanden Bracket And Hoses

28 April 2014 - 05:53 PM

Whenever I go to a junkyard it's always a Keihin, no ac, or some weird non factory setup.
Summer is coming and I need cold air!

I Just Can Not Figure This Out. (Brakes)

24 April 2014 - 09:31 PM

The pedal goes to the floor with little resistance. I've bled them countless times (FL,RR,FR,RL)

Everything I've done has had little or no difference

No leaks.

Fresh pads and rotors

Adjusted the drums.

I saw that the hoses would expand a bit and they were starting to crack so I replaced them.

So from there I just assumed the master was bad so I replaced that (bled it off the car and some more on the car before I connected the lines back. Little or no change so the master was probably fine.

I am confident that there is no air in the system.

So I searched the forums and saw that it could be the booster. But I always thought a bad booster meant a hard pedal?

Is there anything I can do to confirm this? I want to be sure before I buy a new booster.

And unrelated, I need a Sanden bracket and hoses, if anyone can help out.

A/c Help Keihin

09 April 2014 - 04:14 AM

It's getting that time of year again. 90 was the high today in SoCal.

So I need to get my A/C working, and on r134.

I did this with my '84 before so I pretty much know what to do. (Worked well until one day the high pressure side exploded at the viewglass)

Had the day off so I started to take apart the A/C system so it'll be ready once I get all the stuff I need.

-Orings

-Dryer

-Expansion Valve

-Adapters

-Ester oil w/ dye

-I'll probably have the hoses rebuilt aswell.

-The belt pulley needs a new bearing

-Take to local ac shop for vaccum/fill

Okay well my problem is that I have the Keihin this time and I have not heard any good from it, especially with r134.

So is the Keihin out of the question here?

Anyone had any luck using this compressor?

I guess I'll take a trip to the junkyard and pick up a Sanden bracket and hoses. That's everything I need right?

And I've some fairly inexpensive reman Sandens on ebay...
