87 K-Swap Awd Wagon. World's First?

28 March 2021 - 09:50 PM

Thought you guys might like to see this 87 AWD K-Swapped Wagon I built. First one of this chassis that I know of (I know there’s plenty of EFs, but the measurements on this are very different).  There is extremely little information out there about swaps on this chassis, and most of what is available is found here on Red Pepper.  I posted some info over on the K Swap Knowledge Dump thread during the build last year, but I wanted to come back and make this post too.  Hopefully it will help those looking to do this swap or a similar one on this chassis.

I actually filmed the whole process, but that phone died and the footage was lost :( I held on to it in hopes of recovering the data someday.  In the meantime, you'll have to settle for these photos.

- Stock K24A1 and transmission from a 2002 CRV
- Hasport K-Swap EF Mounts, pretty heavily modified
- Base Model RSX front Axles. Driver side fit perfect. Passenger side was shortened at a shop
- Stock 87 wagon drive shaft (shortened) and rear end
- Walboro 250 inline fuel pump mounted on frame rail and converted to a return fuel system (intending to go turbo)
- Converted the wagon to a hydro clutch setup with the master cylinder mounted under the dash

Of course, there's a ton of little things not mentioned but these are the main ones that people usually ask about.

87 Rt4Wd U-Joints

07 February 2021 - 07:29 PM

I have an 87 RT4WD with bad U-Joints (on the drive shaft).  As far as I can tell, no one makes this part for this car.  I took a bunch of measurements and tried to find a similar one from another car.  After hours of scouring spreadsheets and databases, I can confirm no other U-Joints are even close to the size of the one on an 87 RT4WD Civic.  The 88-91 ones are easy to find, but a very different size.

Having a custom-made joint in a small quantity is possible but quite expensive.  Before giving up and condemning the car to a FWD only fate, I figured I'd check on here and see if anyone knew of a place to get this part.
