Hello guys,

I had a blast last year racing my CR-X in SMF but I had a lot of life changing going on and the little CR-X got the normal story of not getting any attention and you know the drill.
Well **** THAT! I love the first-gen CR-X I am not giving up on my car. I am building a race car, XP for auto cross and also use it for track.

Complete strip down and rebuild is about to commence and I am not going to fail like I did on my "super-build".

Wish me luck, and I will update as I progress!

The plan is to strip it all the way down, cage, make it as light-weight as I can. Upgrade the suspension and rebuild the motor with high compression and better cams.

Removed all the interior except the dash so far, windows out and I am starting to strip the doors down to just a shell.:

Started work on the HF rear axle by removing the panhard bar mount:

Started some lightening holes:

Dropped out the rear suspension:

The integra axle that was installed stripped down:

I then chopped the integra axle to use some of the tube for the muford end supports as its a perfect sleeve for the smaller axle!

Reinforced end mounts:

Thats my stopping point for the axle for now.

The first main hoop mount is finshed:

Door seal cut:

And hammered down, welded all to hell and ground flat:

1/8" steel plate welded over:

Remaining reinforcement plates installed:

First one done.

A start to some weight reduction:

Lightening holes:

Thats it for now, work continues!

How are you bending the holes in like that? It looks much better than just plain holes. Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk 2

Dimple die and a C-clamp the metal is thin enough that a c-clamp will work.

Nice!  I love reading builds like this.

Over steer is when you hit the wall with your rear end.
Horsepower is how hard you hit the wall.
Torque is how far you move the wall.

Dude, I would hardly think your "super-build" was a fail.  It was sick.  Signed on for the build!

And we're willing to bet that the CRX won't be at the bottom of the short list--particularly if the CRX in question is an Si."

that looks fantastic. no flexing down there at all, and all the added weight is kept down low and to the rear. i like it.

Small update, because I made my main hoop so tight I was able to tack weld it to the roof and b-pillers, this is just a quick update that I was not planing before:
