I don't have the link anymore, but i remember it pretty good, a shop dyno'ed a B16A Civic back to back a few years back, with a shit ton of different wires. Stock, NGK Blue, Nology, Magnacore, a lot of the big name brands. The stock wires and the NGK's had a fairly smooth dyno graph. All of the aftermarket wires produced a jagged wavy dyno, it didn't make any more horsepower, just made it less smooth.

They did the same test with a MSD box, and a MSD distributor and some other aftermarket ignition setups vs the stock distributor. The Stock system again proved to be smoother and the aftermarkets didn't make more power.

see. thread over.

Thanks Devion. Save your money folks. As Scott always says, the power for these engines is in the head and the air flow through it.

Typically stock plugs and at the most just some thicker wires are more than enough for a STOCK motor. If your going boosted, then you will need to upgrade your plugs.

Honda engineered these motors to run on the plugs and wires that came with the car. If they could have made them run better with a different set of plugs they would have used different plugs. Some may say technology this and that, specially with multiple contact plugs, but stock rx7s in the 70's came with 4 way sparkplugs, so they really arent that new.

There is tonnes of debate to wether or not multiple contacts, electrode materials, and wether or not wire diameter can make worthy horsepower uprades. I would recomend thicker plug wires to any vehichle that your going to running hard, especially hondas where the spark plug wires are right near the header/manifold. Remember that temperature can directly effect electronic performance. Also remember that copper tip sparkplugs have a lower melting tempurature than that of irridium or titanium..tungsten...ect. So in extreme applications like racing, upgrades are recomended for durability, but dont expect to make the swap and the car to just have 20 hp in butt dyno.

To get power out of these cars you better be prepared to rip it apart and build it from the crank up. Then boost.
