Well I think after my car is done im gonna get a new set of tires.
One of the wheels has a slow leak from the valve stem. I bought all new valve stems (super hard to find JDM size) and am going to have them installed after I get my car back.

The tires on it now are some old yokohama AVS' and I think they are at teh end of their lifespan.
Current tire size is 185/60/14. I could stick with that size and get one of the following:
Sumitomo HTR 200 at $44 each.
Yokohama AVS ES100 at $75 each.
Falken Ziex ZE-912 at $54 each
Yokohama AVID H4S at $65 each

Or I could go with a 195/55/14. Sligthly wider and .3" shorter.
I like the idea of a wider and shorter tire, but the cost is higher. Is it worth it?
heres my choices in this size (excluding race rubber, this is a street car)
Dunlop SP Sport 8000 at $99 each.
Toyo Proxes T1R at $99 each

hrm, 1/2" taller isnt bad. Ive heard really good things about how azenis handle too.
$60 is a damn good price too!

What is your evaluation of them as compared to other street tires youve owned?

these tires are awsome. traction is almost as good as a DR and handling is great.they look real aggressive too... biggrin.gif

Yeah, this year. blink.gif

No, really, they don't wear too badly. Considering their performance, they wear very well. How many miles does this car see on a yearly basis? I'd say you'll probably get about 15,000 miles on the street with a set of Azenis, less if it sees track or autocross duty. I'm on my second set, but I sold the first set with the car they were on before they wore out. I'm assuming my current set will be hard before they are worn out, since I only drive the car about 5,000 miles a year.

The extra rolling diameter is more than made up for by the extra grip. The excellent price is just a bonus!

Dunlop makes a 205/45/14.

Toyo makes a crazy 225/40/14 Proxes.

Another manufacturer makes either a 195/45/14 or a 205/45/14...There's an ad for them in many of the current car mags.

I got more like 25,000mi. out of my Azenis. I am going to buy Ziex next time though. I don't see the point of a tire that is kind of a racing tire and kind of a street tire. I'd rather have a set of street tires and a real set of racing tires.

Going to Hawaii? You need a Dune Buggy.

Another vote for Falkens Azenis. I put them on July, 2006 and ran them until september 2007. Keep in mind I do circle track racing on a 1/2 mile 30 degree banked asphalt track, and in mid-summer the temps can really get to your tires. Not these, I consistently had temps that were 150-160, across the tire all the time. Under heavy loadings that are common on banked tracks. It basicallly boils down to setup to preserve tires on tracks like this.

Go for it, you will not be disappointed.
