Glad to hear he is still driving it.  I drove mine for probably 8 years as my daily driver with no AC in Phoenix AZ.  I don’t wish that on anyone! Haha

looking forward to seeing your progress.  The compressor on my 85 is noisy but works.  1980s AC just wasn’t designed for 110 degree plus temps!

Phoenix is more brutal than Dallas. I have to bow to u on that one!

Well, MadMax hit a curb w the Beater a few hours ago. rashed the sidewall. Tire has a sidewall leak. Getting him suited up to spin the rim in the garage and see what we’ve got going on.

ROAD TRIPS 2022.....

Dallas to Austin within the next week. 400 miles

Dallas to Denver for the river trip later this month (14th Annual Road Trip A).  1300 miles

Dallas to MIchigan w my son for a hunting trip Oct/Nov. *14th Annual Road Trip B) 2400 miles

MaxMaxs been driving the beater as a daily driver since he got his license.  I'm not able to get to drive my car now.....   Need to do a good once over for each trip.  Been running fine.

MadMax is a trooper.  Drove the Beater wo AC all summer.  He's begging to get the AC working again.  So started another build on rebuilding AC systems.....  More to follow.  The beaters AC stopped working 2006-2008??  I can't remember.

Another science project.  Cleared out the storage of most of the know AC components I have laying around

52329811095_5423e4e348_m.jpg

And ripped apart several compressors.....

52328440067_113ff101d7_m.jpg

Starting an AC rebuild thread.  will attach here shortly.

A big job.   Be working on in throughout the winter.  And will refurnish MadMax's while were at it...

I’m super envious of the miles you cover. Reminds me of the “good old days”

There was a DX up there I picked off.  Didn’t have a lot of time.   Headlight, hood and misc nuts and bolts

Clocked 1047 miles. no issues. Nice driving weather. Gas ranged from 2.81 in TX to 3.49 near OK city

Prepping for the Michigan trip w MadMax. It’s his first road trip. Looking forward to it

I’ll upload pix when it’s available

I hear you Grease. My fondest desire is to resurrect the black ‘87 Si with a K swap, and then drive the wheels off it. Making progress on researching, planning and collecting some parts. But held up big time by the 2 Vettes & 911S filling my garage. Just finishing an unexpected differential repair on one Corvette, but still have a long way to go before it’s ready to sell. Unfortunately only getting to work on it sporadically cause of other family responsibilities right now :-/

Clocked 2845 miles back to Michigan w MadMax.  Great trip. 9 days.  Drove through the night as usual.  Pulled over and slept a few hours during the graveyard shift in the front seats.  Good weather.  Passed like 50 deer carcasses.  Had 3-4 deer cross in front of us, but no close calls.  Cheapest gas was here in TX $3.11.  Most expensive $4.51 in Michigan

52438004801_85e60c620b_c.jpg

Rain was in the forecast. The antenna and windshield leak a little water in during long rains.  Brought a tarp to keep the inside dry

52437498522_a06126f662_c.jpg

Snow plowed into soft sand on this 2-track.  Glad the lower garnish stayed on!

Waiting for MadMax to return off the trail.  4 birds in the bag on this morning

Car drive was uneventful as normal.  Only failure was the passenger side low beam filament broke.  Wen to Wally and replaced the Slyvannia silverstar.   These bulbs are less than 2 years old.  I knew they wouldn’t last as long.  I thought longer than this

Trails were mostly free of mud holes.  Has been a dry year.  Did go to the car wash to clean out the insides of the rims.   Car drove smooth on the way back.  Was a good call

oil change this weekend. burned 1/3 quart over 4511 miles. kept it under 75 mph. that’s better than i recall from the last time i checked usage.

imo, this engine does not require rebuild at 285k. maybe main bearings or oil pump service. i’m not touching the top end. can’t get honda valve seats/seals anymore.

began using synthetic around 160k

10w30 costco oil to keep cost down. intervals 3-4k. normally it’s been quaker state. used castrol years ago. never mobile 1. too expensive

2022 trip #3 Dallas to Denver later this month.   Update after the trip.  Should clock another 1700 miles.

The plug wire holder closest to the oil cap broke off last year.   While I was at the yards this summer,I looked for replacements.  Most were broken.  Grabbed a good one like in the upper left.   Used a knife/dremmel to shape it close to the new one in the bottom right.  Sanded the plastic w 1000 grit to polish back the shine.  Upper right finished product.  Not perfect, but good enough for a DD

52491584765_6cfa29e1a1_c.jpg

This is a frame grab off my phones video.  Took this somewhere in Missouri/Illinois during the middle of the night.  Low beams w sylvania silver stars.  I had replaced the passenger headlight.  And straighten the drivers headlight as it overlapped the passenger.  Got pretty decent spread for the oe design.  I’d guess twice the lighting as it was before.

52491670253_6a28cca02a_c.jpg

This is a few minutes later w the floggers on.   Silver stars.   Really fills the road.  Helps me see the deer and other animals on the road sides.  Much better for my road trips

more to come after denver.  Oil is changed.  Just hoping in w tools/parts and go.

I’m loving it.  Getting older/blinde.   New cars w HID’s really highlight our dim lights.

Cant wait to see ur project on the road!

Working on it more tomorrow evening.  I’ve got PIAA headlight bulbs in my 86.  They are good but not sure they are as good as your pictures look.

ROAD TRIP 14th ANNUAL 3 of 3.    DALLAS to DENVER.   1521 miles.   Over 6000 miles between the three road trips this year.

52522893122_f4c79805a9_c.jpg

Caught the sunset minutes before it went down.   Raton Pass just over the boarder from New Mexico.

1522 miles.  Uneventful.  Delayed trip a day to let the snow covered roads melt away.   Drove days this trip to ensure dry roads.  Cheapest gas $2.69 in TX.  Most expensive $3.49 in CO.   Visited fam/friends.  Got to park it in a garage.  Didnt drive anywhere while I was there
