i was driving it home today and it stalled when i stoped my car i finally got it to start it stalled agin, but then got it to start agin and moved it a little bit then it stalled agin in the low rpm range, so like if i keep it in the high rpm range itll run but i cant drive a car like that.
i need all the help i can get or info, i paid 800 for it and it ran for only 3 weeks sense holloween night, and it has bad rust so now im just trying my hardest to get my 800 outa it becasue i got ripped off really bad.

have you looked to see if the ECU is throwing any codes?

It is a race against time.... and the odds are not in your favor. Rust will consume your old Honda.

You are in for $800, do you want to throw good money after bad? That is to say, how much are you willing to invest to get this cripple running?

Start by checking that your cam and ignition timing are correct. Replace your fuel filter and run some injector cleaner through the engine. A tune up would not hurt.

Good luck,

Scott

sounds like it COULD be a clogged up catalytic converter. unhook your downpipe from the rest of the exhaust system and see if it runs correctly then. if so, gut/remove/replace the cat.
When I die, i want to go asleep peaceful.......... not screaming and freaking out like everyone else in the car

First, please add your Location to your member Profile, because where you are actually makes a difference in the advice we can give. And to anyone reading this that hasn't done it yet, please go ahead and do so now. Thanks

As far as what could cause low rpm stalling there are lots of things, but I'll try to list some of them from most common to least common:

It could very possibly be a vacuum leak. That would definitely effect it more at low rpm/load than at high rpm/load.

The Throttle Position Sensor (TPS). Although a bad TPS will usually make the idle cycle high-low-high-low it could also make it stall.

The Idle Control Solenoid Valve (ICSV) or Idle Adjuster. A problem with either of these will definitely fubar your idle.

The PCV valve or its tubing being cracked, plugged, broken, etc.

A bad O2 sensor or Idle Mixture Adjuster (IMA) sensor. Either will screw up your idle mixture and could make it stall.

A bad Fuel Pressure Regulator or the vacuum hose going to it.

I'm sure there are other things that could do it like a bad injector, wiring to ecu/injector/etc, fuel filter, fuel pump, water in gas, igniter, ignition secondary system, DSM leprechauns, Fiat devils, MG gremlins, yadda yadda yadda... laugh.gif

Let us know if you can give more details or if you find out what it is. wink.gif

p.s. And don't feel too bad about your car. A fair bit of rust is par for the course for our cars, and unless it has a LOT of rust or is in REALLY bad shape, it's hard to go far wrong buying an 85 Si for $800.

wait wait wait.....does it start when it's cold? Does it stall when it's HOT? if it does it's the Dizzy or ignitor try to get it to run then get out of the car and tap on teh dizzy if it stalls guess what i would also look into that cat thing too

could easily be a bad coil wire or coil

clean ur plug wires and move the wires around at night and look for the arc

if rpm's crash violently beyond 750 and bounce back up (if it doesent stall) would be a bad dash pot on the throttle body.

maybe fuel filter, remember the 2nd filter if ur car is carb'd

yea w/ a vac line attached to it....remove the hose, open the throttle w/ ur finger covering the inlet, then close the throttle. it should pull a vac on ur finger tip for 2-5 seconds at least. also confirm the vac hose and inlets are clean and not obstructed

note this is only if the rpm's crash and bounce up violently.

also your idle could be set too low, u could try and raise it w/ the throttle stop nut, or put some open and shut on your idle screw (on the cold idle advance unit, back of the intake mani), free it up and adjust idle the way fsm says (though most cant' get this adjustment free) open and shut or pb blaster should free it up
