So, I was at the junkyard on my lunchbreak today with one of my buddies, and came across not 1, not 2, but three 88 tegs. All had the dizzy taken already, 1 was an automatic, and one of the 5spds had 360 some thousand kilometers on it. Today was the last day of the sale on engines and trannies, so we hummed and hawwed, and decided to take off early from work. We leave work at 4, get to the yard at approx. 4:30 and get to work. Another buddy shows up shortly after to help. In the course of the next 2 hours, we proceed to rip out the D16 from the automatic, and the trannie from the 5 spd with less mileage (dont you think its funny that we call it *mile*age in Canada?). All for $180CDN!!:o It will need a new clutch, and new seals, and I have to start collecting the rest of the parts now (probably next weekend). biggrin.gif So I've got some work ahead of me. I will try to keep you guys updated.
Gotta stop fiddling with the bike, and GET ON THIS!

The entire tool selection at Sears or the contents of a Snap-On truck will do you no good if you do not know how to use them.

I went back to the junkyard last weekend and got another smokin' deal!

All of this stuff was from an 88 'teg:

Complete wiring harness
Shift linkage
Intermediate axle
Speedo cable
Fuel lines
Clutch cable

Total cost: $20CDN

I kinda followed jeff420's strategy.... If you are trying to pay for your stuff when the yard is closing, and every employee there just wants to go home, then they aren't really gonna look under a whole heap of wires to see if there is anything else there smile.gif They want you to get the *&#@!* out of there so they can go have a beer!

Many a great deal has been made in this manner.
