  • Description: Purchased in '07 on Ebay for $199.00 as only bidder. Seller moving it out of salvage yard as a "parts car". Pictures appeared that it had "potential". Wrecker'd to my house and stuck in side yard...worthless tires, bumper covers ripped in multiple spots and attached with drywall screws,a "spidered" sunroof glass, worn out front/rear seats, oxidized paint,no brake pressure and an engine that would crank but not fire and had a large quantity of fuel in the crankcase. I could resurrect this little car...no problem! Then '08...laid off,no jobs, exhaust UE benefits and become one of the long term unemployed. Car and I languish until early '12 when son deploys to Afghanistan with National Guard and I move in with his family to help care for toddler granddaughters. Civic follows and lives in oversize garage where it gets some attention while waiting to become the backup transport for the girls and I. His wife sues for divorce the minute he leaves and a year later when he returns,he,the girls and I and the Civic (still not driveable)relocate to another city. With the addition of a Social Security retirement check I embark on a mission to get this car on the road in the best mechanical and cosmetic shape that is feasible. Now eleven years and $$$ later it functions as daily transportation for myself and my grand kids and is a far cry from the car that was originally dropped in my side yard!

An ongoing process of upgrading and refinement. A test bed for ideas giving me something to occupy my "retirement" and definitely a place to spend those SSI checks! The "Price" reflects the current total outlay since purchase, based on a spreadsheet of expenditures. Hope you glean something worthwhile from following my odyssey! - SHE DIED AN UNJUST DEATH ON VETERAN'S DAY, NOV. 11, 2018 !!

Hey Eric L...thanks for the nice comments! I started a spreadsheet record of expenditures on this car when I began the rebuild and it honestly reflects every dime spent to get it to its current level including mistakes, redo's, etc. It amazes me sometimes at how quickly the amount has risen...especially when I know that there are additional amounts for many little spur of the moment necessities that haven't made it into the total...but I don't regret a penny of it.
My grand kids are truly the love of my life and I do everything possible to make them as safe as I can when cruising with me in a pre-air bag, etc. small vehicle up against the likes of the behemoth SUV's on the road with driver's who are doing everything but paying attention to their driving! I will convert to 3 four point harnesses in the rear when the kids get too big for the safety seats! Thanks again and best of luck with your projects...Honda's forever, especially our classic ones!

Hi there,
The first thing that caught my eye was your figure of $14k investment... and I had to look at how that was possible... after looking at many of your photos and seeing what you've done to this car, you have my highest respect!!  Good job!!!
I'm really glad to see there's someone here who's out-spent me on one of their projects... hahaa... makes me feel a little bit less insane after all... :o)
Good luck with it!!!
PS - I especially like the amount of thought you seem to have put in to everything and the way you built the baby seat restraint system!!
You've inspired me to do the same to my 3g Civic to accommodate my 2 baby sons, who will be just 1 and 3 years old next summer...
