well as far as survival things i would think you would need a knife or some sort of cutting utensil.... well mainly a knife. and something to start a fire like maybe some Swedish FireSteel.

Well, not much. I still have the original spare tire, which is useless because it's old and I don't know how good it would be to drive on 3 15's and a 14. I have a mni Mag light, a few tools (if it can't be fixed with a 12mm, 14mm, wrench and screwdrive, well.. I'm screwed. One quart of oil. toothpicks
Bottom line, I wouldn't last 1 day in any extreme situation, but then again, we don't have much room to play with.

FYI fire on the cheap. Safety 1st But to start a fire all you need is a 9v battery and steel wool. So if you keep these things in a tool kit, keep them SEpaRateD.
Honda, because it's hard to look baller in your mom's Volvo.
The entire tool selection at Sears or the contents of a Snap-On truck will do you no good if you do not know how to use them.

Paper towel, ugly purple flannel blanket that's been in the family for eons and has served well, full set of metric combination and gear wrenches, mostly complete socket set, assorted wire and butt connectors and such, electrical tape, sometimes on long trips I carry a booster pack and a tire inflating air compressor. A torque wrench, because it makes putting wheels on much easier, a medium sized prybar because it makes a decent weapon and good for prying, and a 5lb sledge for bashy bashy. Plus at least a quart of oil and some starting fluid.

Cell phone to call the lady for help
Tire guage to lower that tire psi during race time
A minture 10mm wrench is my keychain, and comes in handy often
