Throttle Cable Hassle

I have a hassle on the throttle cable on the race car.   I've ignored it but now it's bugging me.

When I got the car the way the throttle is connected at the carb end is a little odd.  Someone (Keith?) cut the end off the cable attachment on an old carb and bolted it to the existing attachment point.  Effectively they moved the attachment point toward the end about a half inch to an inch.

I had always assumed the throttle cable was simply the wrong one, where the free play length is slightly too short.  Until I got a new cable from Ruck which was...exactly the same length.

So then I assumed that the carb on the car must have something funky.  Until I got a new carb and the cable is still too short.  So I drilled a hole and moved the little cut off piece to the new carb.  problem solved.

It's kind of a hassle though since carb #1 works well in cold weather, carb #2 works well in warm weather and it's kind of a pain to swap back and forth.  Plus I now have 2 more carbs I'd like to try and I really don't want to drill holes in them to mount the cable.

To make a long story short, it finally occurred to me that the issue is at the pedal end, not the carb end.

I've kind of looked around and I don't see any info that leads me to think there are multiple pedal setups or cable setups.  so I can only assume that something is funny about the way the cable is mounted to the pedal, or that the pedal is bent?

I'm going to try to crawl under the dash this weekend, any hints on anything I should look for?  I've replaced the cable so I'm 90% sure it's attached the std way.  So it's either wrong pedals or pedal is bent?
