i have an '86 crx hf and i was driving it today going 45mph. i stopped at a light and when it turned green i went to go and my car wouldn't accel. hardly at all. it took a couple of pumps on the gas to get it to move. so i pulled in to a parking lot and tried again there. same problem. so i shut off the car and called my bro and he came out and looked at it. (i don't know alot when big problems happen) he couldn't see anything wrong with it so i started it up again. he was looking at it and found that a hose wasn't connected (right under the breather filter) we connected that and the car stalled. went and started it up. worked fine so i decided to drive it home. it went alright but i took it real slow. i got it home and it was idling about 500 more than i usually does. i don't know what it could be. im in houston and its a little colder than normal i don't know if that has anyghing to do with it or not.

any advice or ideas would be greatly appreciated. i tried searching but all of the problems i found that were related were different enough for me to think that it might be something else

whenever it's a little chilly my car used to stumble and accelerate slower than usual.

it's a fuel starvation problem, which means it's possibly be a leaky accelerator pump.

something to try for now is to get some carb cleaner, or rev the engine up while in neutral to flush it. if you never get the rpm's above 4k then try it, i'm sure the engine will handle it.

it wasn't just slower than usual... it was creeping.. like at the point where you have the clutch halfway out right before you add gas, and that was with my pedal to the floor.

every so often i take my first gear above 4k but no other gear. so im gonna try some carb cleaner when i fill up next time. its running alright now. not as responsive though. and idling higher

Make sure the connections are correct, do you have a vac diagram for the HF? Does it have A/C? Sometimes, it is easy to get some of those hoses flip-flopped.

The entire tool selection at Sears or the contents of a Snap-On truck will do you no good if you do not know how to use them.

im sure that all the hoses are in the right spot. i've only ever taken out the air cleaner a couple of times. i do have ac and it works. i just don't use it. it sometimes stalls the car and besides its pretty cold here right now

Yeah, i understand, I was just wanting a better feel for what is going on with the car.

My car had a stumble at 60 for the longest time. I knew it wasn't a vac line. Two years later, I found my problem. A vac line, actually 2 of them.

it sounds like your accelorator pump on the carb is going, if it is, you should have gas leaking around the plunger rod, drivers side of the carb, it's a small pain in the ass to fix, 15 or so vaccume lines to disconnect, and you have to pull the carb, and it's worth getting real honda parts for this as aftermarket carb parts I have bought never fit or worked right.
but you say it runs better after you hooked the one hose back up? then I would dubble check each and every hose for loose fit, or leaks as well, and maybe call it good.
