Hey everyone,

I just got my Si just a little bit ago. Im very happy with its performance, but it could be better. I know that the D15 and the D16 use the same head gasket. Has anyone swapped out the 12v head for a 16v head? If that wont work, what could i possibly do to the D15A3 to get more power. I was looking at parts there is a lot of aftermarket goodies for the 88 and up civics but the parts for the 87 and down are slim and none... is there cams and oversize pistons avalible?

thanx

Jamie

I know that the D15 and the D16 use the same head gasket. Has anyone swapped out the 12v head for a 16v head?

the ew/d15a3 and the d16a1/zc share the same head gasket. the later d16a6 and on have a different gasket.

GTpilot has swapped the head fron an 88-89 d16a1 to an ew/d15a3 block. search the sight you will find the thread and he has pics in his gallery

as far as pistons go, you can swap out the d15a3 pistons with some nice je forged d16zc pistons...........although if you went through the trouble of that you should also bulk up the rods wink.gif

you would need to bore out the d15a3 in order to fit those pistons...right?

Yes, from what I've been told, a 1 millimeter overbore is required to fit the D16 pistons into our engines.

What would you use, as far as bulking up the rods? Im new to the hondas and
I dont know that much about the compatability of the components.

Don't worry about the rods - I have stock rod race motors that I spin over 8000 RPM and make way more HP than you will get out of a street motor. Just put in a set of ARP rod bolts and have the big end of the rod resized (if they need it - your machinist will be able to tell) and then get them rebalanced.

gtpilot, does your "rule" apply for turbo applications as well, or just n/a motors. If only 4 n/a then who makes forged rods for boost apps?
