i'm in the process of building a high power drag/sprint ew3 crx. (aiming for 170+ bhp)

going to crank it up to 8000+ rpm  with light flywheel with a solid padlle clutch

my question is how much torq and abuse can a stock gearbox have? and which parts will fail first?

also; are there thicker axles that i can use?

My car sees some hard starts on pavement with race rubber. I shift hard, but don't sidestep the clutch. The drive train is stock except for the racing clutch. I run stock empi axles, which I change out every 2 years. The rear motor mount is the problem area, as it has failed where it bolts to the tranny. Right now I am replacing the tranny because I blew out 2 bolt mounts on it. I'm planning on running 3m window weld in new mounts, safety wiring these bolts, and running a torque rod to hold the engine.I run about 150hp, Dave

thanx for the info..

in that case i'll just rebuild the gearbox to stock (got up rated gears made for my other car, quite pricy)

the motor mounts will al be filled and a extra damper/mount will prevent te top from moving to much.. got that part covered

the extra safety wire is a good idea though

didn't expect that the axles will hold up that well..you never broke one out of the hub?

No, but you can buy better quality hubs. I'm running stock hubs, but I did magnaflux them when I installed new wheel bearings, Dave
