i was wounding if anyone on here has done something like this to there 1 gen crx? On the 2nd gen crx's its called a tunnel Back Hatch Conversion. I was wounding because i was thinking about doing something like this because i have a extra hatch and to loss weight. i noticed that the si hatch weights about 55 lbs. while a hatch with no window, spoiler and wiper weighs about 15 lbs. i was thinking about making it out of the existing hatch with nothing on it can and cutting out as much as possible. while using fiberglass for the walls and bottom and using plexiglass or lexan for the window. thanks

I dunno what's uglier... the car or the "models" standing in front of it.
but if it could save 30+ lbs go for it

If its your flavour of tuning go for it man be different *thumbsup*
Imho i preffer the 3-5kilo rims, Full Cage,Stripped intereor Look...
But that would be my weekend/Touge spec car

ive looked at my rex several times and thought up similar inventions in my head.... i was kinda thinking more on the lines of a completely fiberglass hatch replacement though, that would be removeable and strictly weight savings for the strip.... i ve also been dreaming up a reverse opening fiberglass one piece hood....

looks like sht
Actually, when you get it away from the ugly broads, it looks closer to an MR2, But I am sure that if done right, It can look fantastic. Man, this gives me an Idea. Imagine all the cars that had a title that I passed up because I didn't feel like putting in the work to finding a flawless rear hatch for the car. Dang, Zakats car would be totally different now. Hmm, this would really be nice in a dx.
Honda, because it's hard to look baller in your mom's Volvo.

ricey. and I'd think that it would hurt your aerodynamics due to causing a substancial amount of swirl in the 4~ cu ft of now open vacuum area

though it'd be interesting, I'm glad you didn't. I was very thankful for my hatch space two days ago when I picked up my set of meshys

first thanks for all the responses.
second i was thinking of making this for racing only. not to keep on daily. But i think i am going to go ahead and try and make something like this and make it have a collapsible window. kind of like the Del sol's and block it off so i don't have all that vacuum space like zakats mentioned. As while as try making a stock looking hatch made of all fiberglass. i figure either way i can lose at least 30+ lbs.

you could apply a lot of kakabox's hatch modifications to a crx and have a seriously lightened hatch... though I don't mean to turn you off to doing something different- especially when it comes to body modifications, I'm all for that... but maybe something of this sort might not be a bad idea after all. just keep aerodynamics in mind if you plan on racing at speeds over 50 mph
