Well I was on my way to TROY Alabama on 167 North. I Got stuck behind some 18 wheelers. Two of them for a few miles, But they were no problem , passsed then up only to fall behind a pack of 5 other slow moving vehicles. Don't you just hate that. 2 suv, 1 truck and two cars. This is a small just two lane road mind you . Speed limit 55. Could not do a thing. 20min still in the same place 6th....LOL When just than a opening , down to 3rd pedal to the metal and started to turn and then Bamm. The suv in front just jumps in front . AHHHHH. So we pass all the others..going 80-85. We both now bring it down to 70. That's good for me. About 8 mins into it. Am still behind the Suv. And then A STATE Trooper on the other side. This is not good ! ... But am behind the SUV about 4 car lenghts am thinking he clocked here and not me. Next thing you hear and see is; he turns the lights on and smoking the tires. I see this all from my rear view mirror. Its just like on TV. The Suv up front starts to pull over, Am still thinkng AM good...am going to keep driving, and just then out of his loud speaker he says" You to pull up behind her.. NO WAY! This has never ever happened to me before.. Both of us are getting pulled over for going 70 in a 55.. So he comes to the window and stops for a sec and say Lic,insurance, and reg. AM Still thinking to myself No Way this is not happening. So He goes up and talks to the lady in the SUV first and she drives off. What the hell. Am getting the ticket. He comes to my window. Takes my info , ask how to say my last name. I tell him. Next thing that comes out is So any reason your speeding. We are thinking (wife and I) start saying the truth. But its not sounding good. And then he says just following her right.. To that we both say YES.. To end the story. No ticket . A close call. AL

That was way close call.

I've never actually known a person that got stopped in one of those double pull overs either.

I also wonder in the era of super tight budgets why do the troopers continue to do burnouts.
It's not like he won't catch up anyway. I guess because they can.

Glad you did not get a ticket.

Great ending to that story.

Maybe he was more concerned about finding/ticketing folks who had no current insurance or expired registration and just used the speeding as a way to pull you over to check.

You were very fortunate to not receive a summons - nice to have a reasonable constable as I presume they are pressured to write summons from above.

Early one morning I was cruising at a good clip on a local parkway when I lived in NY. Apparently there were two other cars behind me going the same speed. The local cop came ripping up the left lane pointed me to pull over, as I did he stopped the cruiser in the middle of the road and pulled the other two cars over. They said we were "racing". I had no clue who the other cars were as they had always been behind me.

You where traveling at 70 mph with only four car lengths behind the person in front of you? As I was reading your story, and it got to the part where the cop let the person in front go, and was heading back to your car I thought, "Yep, he's getting the ticket for tailgating."

That alone should have been a ticket. Still glad it worked out for you though.

tail gating is a thing of the past. we do 100- 120km out here in bc and your lucky to have atlest 1 car space in front of you. and if yo leave more then that you get a car in font of you and the other one.

I'm over that about 15 years ago. Although I completely understand what you are saying.

I leave 12-14 car lengths just like I would with a motorcycle, try to look 15 seconds out.
I'm talking on the high speed portion of my commute (middle lane for me not to exceed 80 mph).

I've noticed if I don't tailgate the person behind me 99 percent does not tailgate me.

The people that zip in and out they will do it whether you leave 100 car lengths or .1 car length.

BTW I'm not giving a driving lecture just stating my strategy for a less stressful commute.
