Hi, Im Brendan (from Melbourne, Australia) own a 86 Civic 1.5L Hatch
When i go around a corner fast - crazy, like faster then normal and then racing full on, it handles nicely to the right, all good there, but to the left its shit as anything! It never use to be this bad, its seems to have got worse!
To the left it, well, its hard to explain, car seems to jolt around ALOT (feels like its loosing power then regaining it) and feels like the front dives down
Has this hapened to anyone b4?
Everyone is telling me diff things (suspention, diff, were the engine connects to wheel ect) but noone knows! and its soo anoying!!
Any help on the matter would be appreciated
Brendan

Carbed or FI car? If carbed, which carb?
Going to Hawaii? You need a Dune Buggy.
WTB: 14x8 or 9" Panasports or Watanabe RS.
WTB: 3g Civic hatch gauge cowl, brown.
WTB: ZC header--FOUND

Have you looked inside the gas tank? (not with a match)
If it's a fuel starvation problem, there might be sediment or watter in the tank which is only getting picked up in one direction.
If it's a suspension problem, the only way I can think of to lose power is if something is rubbing and you should be able to see evidence of that (ie. tire on inside fender)
My $.02 worth

Wow, thats a vague discription of whats going on.
If you don't have any noises, other than chugging. yeah cause the float is probably bottoming out or you need to change your filters both front and back. but I would think it may be wheel bearing related or a ball joint. This is definatly one that could be simple or very complex.
I need a little more info.

My guess?
First reaction it's the float.
Trouble shooting:
1. Make sure the tank is full
2. Make sure that your fuel filters are new.
3. Make sure that the float level is in the middle of the bulls eye on the float chamber. Has an external adj. (Im assuming your carb is the same as my 85 DX carbed hatch)
4. Somehow, connect a fuel pressure guage as close to the carb as possible and make sure that you have good fuel pressure(read the workshop manual). if a prob. fix it with new parts (fuel pump).
5. Test drive, shut off the engine immediatly if it craps around the corner. Get out and look at the float level through the bulls eye.
6 If your float level is low, then go through the carb and make sure that the float and needle / seat are new. Set up per honda's specs. Test again.
7. If all runs fine start rising the float level 1/8 inch to make it a tad richer for some extra perf.
Good hunting

i had that same problem on my 86 1.5L ew2 when ever i was above 40k and a hard turn to the left would casue it to sputter or twise it died.
this is with full tank and new filters, empty tank old filters it didnt make a diff.
its something to do with the carb because i did the eldo emmitions removel and it fixed it basicly gave more gass all the time.
so i would say its starving the float.

Ok it is a fuel issue!
I did a bit of testing the other night, onramp to fwy over and over lol.
When im going around a tight corner like turning into st, hairpin ect at speeds over 45km/h ish it jolts around ALOT, which i knew.
When i go around the same corner, at same speed or even faster, and put car in netural IT WAS PERFECT! So i knew it was somthing in the engine or transmision. Then i noticed that the car had STALLED! (cause car was in netural, oviously i didnt have foot on accelerator) So yeah it does sound like fuel starvation.
I have to go to mechanics soon.
If its the fuel float, were is the float level thing on the carb? were should i be looking?
And how can i muck around with adjusting it?
P.S Yes rear fuel filter is about 4,000K new, front filter i couldnt find! and my Haynes repir manual didnt say there was one. If i deff do have one, can somone post up a pic of were it is, or detailed description.
