Okay, in an attempt to get the the most complete motor code list for 84-87 Civic and CRX's, I would like for you guys to post your motor codes that are for your stock motors, as long as you know them. Also, post the 3rd to 6th digits of your VIN, because that is the chassis/engine code, and I can put it all together in one big list...

Follow along with the format I have done:

Market: CDM
Year: 1986
Model: Civic
Trim Level: DX
Engine: EV2
Displacement: 1342cc
CVCC?: No
Valves: 12 (0 Aux.)
Fuel: Carb
Transmission: 5-spd Manual
Chassis: AG5

Market: CDM
Year: 1986
Model: Civic
Trim Level: 1500 S
Engine: EW2
Displacement: 1488cc?
CVCC?: No
Valves: 12 (0 Aux.)
Fuel: Carb
Transmission: 5-spd Manual
Chassis: AH5

Market: CDM
Year: 1987
Model: CRX
Trim Level: Si
Engine: D15A3
Displacement: 1488cc?
CVCC?: No
Valves: 12 (0 Aux.)
Fuel: F/I
Transmission: 5-spd Manual
Chassis: EC1

Finally, Don't post a previous list, they typically have errors. If you post what you have, with that info that I have, we can be sure that that motor came in that car, that year, that trim level. If you think there is any other important info that should be filled out, let me know.

One more note, I looked in the factory service manual for the USDM 87 Civic Hatchback, and under motor codes it stated the D13A2 was a 1.5L carb, and the D15A2 was a 1.3L carb.... I have reason to believe this is incorrect, so when you get your motor info, check the underhood sticker for displacement to be sure.

I will compile a full list once we get as much as we can, don't worry about posting a motor code that has already been posted, post anyways, because the more motor codes we have that are the same, the more proof it is.

Cheers,
Mark

CVCC is the high-fuel mileage motors, that incorporate the standard 12 valves, but also has an extra 4 auxiliary valves. I'm at work, so I don't have time to explain just how it works, but you have a Civic Si with the D15A3, so you don't have the CVCC system. As far as I know, the only F/I motor with CVCC was from Japan... made more power than our D15A3's too!

Nivek and unusualcivic: You both posted a motor code of D15A2, but posted differently for CVCC... I can understand as unusualcivic's is an 84... but the 'D' motor codes only appeared in 1987 (from what I know) so I think unusualcivics motor is either not stock, or that is the wrong code... can you double check for me? Also, get your chassis codes too, so I can cross-reference them, just edit your posts, I will keep an eye out for it. Same for all others that didn't fill in all the fields. I just want to be 100% sure! Thanks again!

Cheers,
Mark

Why am I the only with an EW3?

Because you have the first EW that was fuel injected, found in the 85 CRX Si...

There may be slight differences from the EW3 to the EW4/D15A3, which I will hunt down once I am satisfied with this list.

Mark
