hmmm... your long kakastick puts in that much play?

i am using an 88-91 short shifter with the 88-91 shift pivot shimmed up to fit the factory housing, and simply used a cut OEM shifter with a nut welded to the bottom to make a shifter extension. the ebay shifter has much less of a rearward tilt than the OEM (almost straight up and down) but the extension still has the severe rear tilt, which if rotated toward the driver a bit puts the shifter right next to my steering wheel, almost dead center of the wheel height wise. i have a fairly decent U joint, but its still original, but i still only have an inch or so of play at the top...

No.
The extra long, No-Reach shifter puts in zero play. Nada.
Because of the extra length of the shift lever above the pivot, the shift knob is further away from the pivot, so any play that is already present in the shift linkage and/or transaxle is magnified; the play shows up as longer knob travel.

Draw the triangle and do the trig...you'll see what I mean! wink.gif
