Possible Fuel Issue With Crx.

26 July 2014 - 02:17 AM

So about two months ago I bought an 87 CRX that was converted to FI. I test drove her before purchasing it and drove the thing home for about 50 miles with not a hiccup. It sat for about 2 weeks until I registered it. Once I registered and drove around I noticed a tiny misfired while cruising and general driving. I had plugs, cap, rotor, fuel filter, and wires coming in the mail so I wasn't too worried about it. Tuned her up and the misfire was still there... She sat for a couple of days and I went for another test drive she was running even worse, sputtering, accelerating sporadically, and dying when I coasted.

Now, I never got to change the fuel filter because the PO just added a return to the lines. I dont think he used SI lines when he converted it specially since there's no filter in the bay. I'm assuming the DX one is still in place after the tank.

While all this has happened there was a lot of raining in between days and she sits in the driveway under a tree. Could water be getting in my tank? How? How do I go about this? I'm thinking the next step is to drain the tank and replace the filter. Thoughts? Suggestions? In the future plan on replacing the lines to SI ones as well as the tank but for now I want to get her running tip top like the day that I bought her.

I'd love me some help and suggestions! :)

Pre-Purchase Question! (Erratic Idle)

Sup ya'll!

First topic/post ever as I'm a professional lurker and been stalking the forum for over half a decade. Anyways, I went to look at a 87 CRX that was originally carbureted and auto a couple days ago. The owner swapped an 87 SI motor recently and it looks to be in good shape, no funny noises or fluid leakage. He also mentioned a recent water pump/ timing belt job so that's a plus. But, we started it and the RPMs jumped to about 2K then came down to 1K and started to bounce between I'd say 1,000 and 500 RPMs once it warmed up a bit. He told me it was due to "deleting this black box thing". He devac'd it after pulling the motor out of an SI 3G.

I'm thinking he maybe didn't plug something right or the IACV needs to be adjusted/cleaned/replaced... What does this sound like to you? I know it's hard to diagnose a car problem through a computer screen but I'd like some insight. I really want to buy it but held back because of this. Am I over reacting? Is this an easy fix?

Thanks everyone for reading!
