87 Crx Si Fi - 5 Speed - Needs Work - $500 Obo

21 August 2010 - 08:22 PM

It needs alot of work...

Ok, I am getting rid of my nightmare of an 87 CRX Si 5 Speed. It has about 170k on it. Give or take. Title says 180xxx k since previous previous owner apparently couldn't read numbers.

A bought the car from someone who didn't know much about it. It has some issues, but even with them, I have been driving it back and forth to North East Philadelphia each day for over 2 months, until I recently Parked it. It needs a fuel pump... I can start it to show you that it does run by spraying in Throttle Body Cleaner.

Replaced:
Fuel Pump, Filter. (Pepboys, pump is now dead)
Spark Plugs (Autozone)
Plug Wires (Autozone)
PCValve (Autozone)
Starter (Napa)
Main Relay (Napa)
Clutch (Napa OEM Alton NKK)
Rear Main Seal (Advanced)
Axle Seals (Rock Auto)
Valve Cover Seal (Napa)
Grant Steering Wheel with E-Bay Hub (horn does not work, the steering wheel is worth $100 alone)

IT NEEDS:
Fuel Pump
All 4 Shocks/Struts (and bushings I am sure)
New Rear Springs (Previous Previous owner cut them for UBAR LOW, I have the new springs to install)
Driver Side Outer Tire Rod
4 Tires.
New Carpet
Interior is missing pieces, pieces are broken. Dash is in good condition, dirty, but un cracked.
Alignment.
FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR (I have to prime it a few times in the morning to start it, sometimes I gotta re prime it more, but once it starts it stays running.
E-Brake Cable. (Stretched)
Gear Oil Changed to Lucas or GM Syncromesh
New Trans? This one has an interesting noise and whirling noises. Small grind into 2nd when under intense load, but if you drive her nice, it shifts fine, and I am sure if you change to a better gear oil, it will disappear.
A/C doesn't work. Idle sticks at 3k when you turn it on. (A/C Vac Boost valve)
OIL PAN (This one has a stripped plug and it just has a rubber twist in thing. It leaks, but doesn't spew. I never let it run low)
No Radio.
Only one working front door speaker and it's the wrong size anyway.
It has that stupid honda idle surge. Its the FITV and of course you can't get them for this car, so I just said screw it and ignored it.

It has rust in the spare tire area and 2 fist sizes holes in the foot pan in the front, one left, one right... nothing a cutter, sheet metal and welder won't fix.

Timing belt seems to have about 40k-60k on it. Has never over heated, or given a hint of doing so, coolant is good colored and water pump doesn't make any noise.

Does not come with Cold Air Intake, you will get the stock air box, it needs a filter and will be in the back of the car.

DOESN'T BURN ANY OIL.

The inside is filled with misc trash and shit, I really didn't give a fuck about it towards the end.

The Verdict:
In all honesty, The car is a candidate for body parts or other misc crap or a swap. I have spent way too much on this thing, and don't even want to look at it. It is a good A to B in a pinch car. It would get 30+mpg if you drove her nice and replaced the FPR.

I am set on $500, but if you got something CLOSE to $500. You won't be getting the Key unless I see a tow truck or new registration and tags.

I will take Car Audio + $300. I am looking for 2 12's @ 500watts each and a 700ish Amp. Need a box too.

Someone take this headache off my hands, before I send it to the crusher.

I work 9am-7pm Monday-Saturday. Call me to setup a time to come and look at it. DON'T WASTE MY TIME. CALL ME ONLY IF YOU HAVE CASH.

609 501 7065 (NO TEXTS) and if you call me late at night, I will end you.

Title is clean and I have it in hand.

Need Help With No Start Issue

28 June 2010 - 10:42 PM

As you all know my 87 CRX is my DD....

Anyway... just had my trans replaced...

Started it up this morning... drove to work in philly... had to move my car... wouldn't start..

No Click, No Clunk, Nothing... All I hear is my Main relay clicking in my dash...

Had a friend try and crank it, put my hand on the starter, and the solenoid (the solenoid is right next to it right?)

It doesn't vibrate, clunk, click, NOTHING...

If we Clutch Drop it from a roll, it fires up and I can take off...

Checked the fuses, but I may have over looked one...

I have replaced the main relay with a brand new one... its not bad either... the fuel pump primes like it should... etc etc.

PENDING THE FUSES ARE BAD, what else could it be?

I know the ground cable on my trans is infact attached and good. Both contacts on the starter are good, solid, clean as they should be (rubber covers are on)

Where do I go from here? I need this car to be up and running NOW... this is my only source of transportation.. it has to be something within the ignition area... HELP ME GUYS!!!

Main Relay/fuel Pump Relay

07 June 2010 - 10:38 AM

Well... I went to start her up this morning, and since I know my FPR is crapped, I always prime it two or three times. I Primed it, went to start, no start.

Went to prime again, don't hear the pump, AND The PGM-FI light doesn't come on.

Checked all my fuses, including bar fuses under the hood, everything looks good.

I know there have always been issues with the main relays in Hondas. I know it is on the driver side kick panel area.

Are the main relay and fuel pump relay different in this car?

I need all the help I can get on this one, I am suppose to start a new job today.

Got Another Transmission

24 May 2010 - 02:40 PM

for my 87 CRX Si FI.

It has this stamped on the gold plate on the trans - GW-209391

Got this 2nd hand from a friend.

Is this the right part number for my car?

edit - Called the Honda Dealer, this actually just a serial number.

Where is the part number stamped on these transmissions? Its mega fucking dirty, so i'll need an entire case of brake clean to find it.

The part number the dealer gave me was - 20011TE6J30

If The Trans Is Over Filled

21 May 2010 - 09:34 PM

in my 87 CRX Si, FI, will that cause it to leak out of the main input shaft?

I finally got my rear main seal, and while they had the trans out, they did a bearing in side the trans and the main input shaft seal...

If my tranny fluid level is too high, will that cause the fluid to leak out of the input shaft seal and down to the bottom of the bell housing?
