The entire tool selection at Sears or the contents of a Snap-On truck will do you no good if you do not know how to use them.

hmmm, i thought sindrlla would have made a progress post by now. i wont steel her glory but from the point i left off on out till the end result she is doing all the work herself with nothing but my "supervision" to point and say "put that part on right there". not because i dont want to work on the car but because she wants the satisfaction of finishing her car on her own. she has made great progress in 2 days of work last week and is very close to having it running. best part is that i didnt even get my hands dirty!

for my efforts as "supervisor" i get to drive the car for a few days to work out any potential bugs. im very excited for this!!!

im not positive but i believe she has all intentions to make an appearance with the wagon at the wilq meet on may 2nd and possibly the Sgt. Pepper and other meets as well.

come on sindrlla, give an update already

Just because I've failed to have the extra funds the few times I've seen a wagon I'd buy for sale doesn't mean I don't love them. One day I hope to have a CRX, another Sedan and a wagon, maybe a 2WD and 4WD.

LMAO, it is already all in a ugly blue box known as a 87 civic "wagon". it's no longer the scattered mess you saw sitting in the garage when you were up here. you'll see...

i can add one really cool update... when i started this project last summer i wanted keep wiring changes to a minimum and bigorange was telling me that he thought you could just put the 86-89 integra cluster behind the wagon's cluster hood and glass. he was correct to an extent, it can be done but takes a little bit of customizing. after about 5-6 hours of playing with it, i got it to work.

here's how.... i took the wagon cluster, glass and hood apart and at first it looked like it wasnt going to work because the teg cluster is slightly taller. i didnt measure but im going to say about 1/4 inch or so. i had to break off 3 of the tabs and do some slight trimming on the wagon glass surrounding and at that point the teg cluster would fit into the wagon glass but the tabs didnt snap in place and the wagon glass surround covered half of the warning lights at the top of the teg cluster. next step was to find a way to lower the cluster so these lights werent half way covered. this was an easy fix. i put the lower 2 tabs in place as they should be and the one remaining on top i put on the outside of the tab instead of inside the tab slot where it originally was. at this point the top of the glass face matches up very nicely with the top edge of warning indicator lights. next step was to make it all stay in tact since the snaps are different sizes. this was easily fixed with 3 very short (probably 1/8 inch long) screws going through the glass surround and tabs and into the cluster itself. hard to follow i know but pic's at a later date will clear it all up.

during all of this another issue was the pin that sticks out of the odometer to reset trip meter. since we are using the wagon glass with teg cluster we run into an issue with this reset pin being in different locations. on the wagon it is about 3/4 to the right compared to the teg's cluster where it's almost dead center. to fix this i simply drilled a hole for the new location of the teg reset pin and then put another rubber grommet in the hole. so now when you see the whole assembly put together, the only indication that it doesnt belong there is an extra hole and grommet in the glass with no reset pin sticking out but it really isnt even noticable and we might even find a clever way to hide it..... but you all know it's there now anyway unsure.gif

i just tried taking pictures of it all complete sitting on my kitchen table but my phone just wont capture a good image with the glare of the glass so pic's will have to wait till the install when sindrlla gets some better pic's since she got custody of the digital camera.

if only my OBD1 B18B1 swap in 86 crx HF would have been this easy...

Was that running with si fuel injection or a carburetor? usdm or cdm head? a cvcc head in an SI car might start but it'd run like a bag of ass but if it were a cdm dx head it'd work great and have a bump in compression too... but I dont believe that was the case.

This was a CVCC DX head, SI camshaft on a SI block and fuel injected. Ran fine for me as a DD.

well this project took a turn for the better future as opposed to a short life of hardcore offroading and "tough truck" competition ending as an engine, transmission and rear floorpan donor for an AWD crx project. as of friday april 17th 2009 it is now back in the hands of sindrlla and running perfectly in all it's blacktop glory. i have no pic's but she has a few progress pic's of during the build and plans to get some more when she finally stops driving it long enough to clean it up a little and take some more of the finished product.

this car's new life will continue on sindrlla's page that she started 3 years ago when she got the car. HERE is a link to her original thread where it's new life and all future progress will continue
