My nice shiny new welded in back half......
Now I'll feel much safer on my lapping days.
This was my design built by a local circle track shop.
Car is noticably stiffer. I can't wait to get the new dampers installed and hit the track this year!

I have taken the $300 John Force drag racing Course . Now I know what the champions do thus making me, in sense, a champion.

That looks great!
I still want to put a full cage in mine. I figure with the extra power of my motor, the enhanced stiffness would be worth more than then penalty of carrying the extra weight. I know, I know, the dangers of driving a street car with a roll cage and no helmet.
I wonder if I can tuck it up to the outer shell tight enough and make some kind of padding that doesn't look like crap.... The only problem I can see with that idea is trying to get the car through tech. Inspectors don't like it when you hide the roll cage.
Anyway, looks good Retro.

Thanks Kirk (and everyone else)
I'm going to try and fit the interior panels back in.....sort of in a patchwork kind of way.
I also have to clearance the armrest on the doors to miss the main hoop.

Looks nice Rob! What OD and wall thickness did you go with?
Kirk, I have a spot picked out in the shop for your street CRX, so bring it down too!

Jim,
The main hoop, diagonal and main down tubes are 1 3/4" dia x 0.120" wall , SAE 1020 steel
The stiffeners are all 1 1/2" dia x 0.120" wall , SAE 1020
It's what is called out in the rulebook here for cages in CASC competition, be it Solo or wheel to wheel racing.
At least that is what the cage builder told me.....

My thought on that is to put a section of flat sheet aluminium or steel along the cage, attached to the roof panel and underside of the cage tube. An inner roof, if you like. An angle of 30 degrees should be about right. Have to be safer than padding; and should pass safety inspection as you have duplicated the original roof lines so your head hits the glass.

Thanks for sharing that info Rob. You've got a stiff and safe cage there. Nicely done.
