Well, now you can say you HAVE seen one:

I wish I knew that before i went to get my engine. I didn't even know about this website until I already had my engine and was halfway through the swap.
That zc is vacuum advance right?

The brown top's are vacuum advance, the black top's are electronic advance

Now onto Strudel's question......

D series engines were SOHC (vtec and non vtec), the only DOHC d series engines were the DOHC ZC and the D16A1

Now for the B series..........they were ALL DOHC. All vtec except for the B18 LS motors and the B20 CRV motor.

If there is indeed a B series ZC motor..........well thats a new one on me.

shitty motors, but there the easiest swaps. I would NEVER put a ZC in any of my cars

Why do you feel that they are shitty motors?

Not that I agree with the "shitty motor" statement, but if you set a B16A next to any DOHC D16 derivitive (ZC, D16A1, A8, A9....) you'll find that everything about the B-series motor with the same displacement outshines the lowly D.

Put more simply, the B series line is designed with a lot more power potential.

Well that is common sense, Vtec is what makes Honda shine. But at the same time all Vtec is, is a special cam and a "vtec solenoid". Thats why you just boost the ZC ph34r.gif

EDIT: Dont get me wrong, I would love to put a B16A1 into mine, but for the money I would spend on mounts, axles and the sorts......I can just put in built ZC and boost the hell out of it......

eastsiderider, Your comment helps a bit. So, what you are intoning is that the 88-91 Civic and the 89-92 CRX engines I quoted are D series DOHC non VTEC derivatives but only came out in Japan and nothing came across the pond. They are then both 2G ZC's with black tops , etc.
I still believe that they are the prototype for the actual B series VTEC's. I only say that as the engine has many similarities to the B. JS

The only people that I know of that recieved the ZC's were JDM and EDM.

The D16 ZC motors were the Honda "power house" motors before Vtec came about. The motor that you want to put into a 1g CRX is out of a 88-89 JDM Integra (black top).

But you have to be carful when asking around for a motor out of those years. Because the B16A1 first appeared in 1989 JDM Integra XSi and RSi models. So make sure the importer knows that you want the 88-89 1.6 non-Vtec motor.

RPR: how extally did that work out for you? did you need to make a adaptor because I have been told that the elc-dizzy and the vac-dizzy do not interchange. -bolt to the head

also can some one tell me what car a ZC-1 came out of? was it a 1g edm crx 1.6i?

Okay-ish. None of the bolt holes realyl line up, so I made some 'modifications'. I can dig up some pics if you want, but they aren't pretty... smile.gif

the VSS is a easy add on to the fact CRX cluster. Justr pop the integra cluster apart and remove the speed sensor, and there is already a place for it on the CRX cluster.

removing the VSS from the stamped steel speedo chassis is easier said than done.

Much easier to just swap a HF speedo unit in place of the Dx/Si unit. You've got to match instrument brands though - NS will not fit in a denso cluster & vice versa.
