Well, being that im on a tight budget and cant afford a nice set of wheels at the moment i bought a set of these for my 3g to get me by. i found a set of these 14" 96-00 ex optional equipment wheels, since i was tired of running around on steelies. i paid $50 with some shotty tires. as you can see its not really eye candy.

I then opted to buy some (2 cans) krylon gloss black spray paint, sand paper, silver paint marker (centercaps). the cost? $13 and change. reason i chose this color was to hide the wheel a bit ph34r.gif laugh.gif . i then noticed the center caps had an engraving of the "h" on the backside. so i popped off the cover on the centercap and found the " h" was engraved on the front. so i decide to paint the insert in silver, for a bit of contrast.

i then sanded and grinded the wheels to remove the blemishes the best i could. i left a slight outer lip to contrast (seperate) the wheel from the tire. i achieved it by grinding with a (fine) wire brush drill bit, and some sanding. i then painted it with several coats and wound up with this.

So heres my cheap excuse for some "upgraded" wheels . i spent a total of about $75 including the wheels. so what do you guys think, was it worth the time or should i have kept my busted ass steelies? luckily i have some new tread going on them courtesy of the steelies.
BTW, hi im a noob ph34r.gif biggrin.gif

The entire tool selection at Sears or the contents of a Snap-On truck will do you no good if you do not know how to use them.

Nice work.
I like the silver lip idea - and the center caps.

Wow, impressive work. I am thinking of doing someting the same to my GSR's, but low on cash and time lately. Is that High Temp paint?

Awsome work! I think I like the rims better with your paint job.

One thing, does anybody know if there is a coating you can put ontop of the paint and rim? Mine are sanded, but want some kind of protectant for the paint finish?

again thanks for the compliments. no its the regular krylon paint you can buy at walmart laugh.gif . as far as some protection, you can use the duplicolor wheel clearcoat. it resists chiping and holds up against heat and the elements. ive used it before and have no complaints.
