Wondering if the O ring on the distributor wares out and leaks oil from underneath. I have recently replaced the vale cover gasket so I don't think that is it. What is normal for the 1.5 carbed engine.

Bingo! The distributor O ring does go bad with time. Easy to replace, cheap. Do it.

My O-ring was broken on the bottom and was quite brittle when I replaced it. Major leak is reapired. I may have a very slight leak from the head gasket. Not sure yet. I may just re-torque the head to proper setting and see if it helps. JS

Thanks for the info, Next question. Is the distributor o ring part of the ew-1 gasket kit. I have one that I have only used the valve cover gasket and it has a bag of gaskets which none of them have any ID.

They are easy to change, but it's also easy to pinch the o-ring when you replace it.
One trick that helps is to apply heavy grease to hold the o-ring in the groove as you slide the distributor in place.....and don't force it. It helps if you pull the cap off the distributor and wiggle the rotor while trying to engage the notch in the cam.

Another possibility is the fuel pump gasket. Mine was basically pouring oil out when I changed it last year.

OK I'll bite. Oil leak from a fuel pump gasket?? Fuel pump is by the gas tank unless you have added a different one. The only fuel pump that would be run by the engine that I can remember is on my old Mini. Back of the engine driven internally and yes they did leak on occasion. Please explain what you mean a bit more clearly. Thanks. JS

The DX /carbed models run a mechanical fuel pump off the cam (between the distributor and the head). My oil leak is from the dam drain plug.(New washer didn't help- think i'll try some teflon paste?)

Mine did the same thing. Brand new oil pan. I took a rubber O-ring and put it on the plug, It worked. Then oil started leaking from the oilpan gasket, if it isn't one thing its another. I feel like the little dutch boy.

heh...i don't even bother changing the washer...I just tighten the bolt, clean the area, and apply a layer of Ultra Grey Permatex silicone...works like a charm
While on the topic of th distributer oil seal, would it be easy to find or would i need to buy a kit? (interchangeable between most honda, sohc engines?)
