wow gastank in the front. just like the pinto.
Actually, Pintos had the gas tanks in the rear. Pintos would actually explode when rear ended becasue the gas tank would rupture and the fuel would ignite.
This is a typical Ford problem.
1960s Mustangs all had the same problem.
Ford drops the gas tanks into a hole in the trunk floor, instead of mounting the gas tank under a solid trunk floor like Chevy or Dodge.
Even new Fords have this problem. 20 or 30 Police officers in the United States have died when their Crown Victorias were rear ended and the gas tanks exploded. The Dallas Police Department in Texas was suing Ford and demanding Ford's crash test data on the Crown Vics when one of their officers died in a rear end collision.
You're Mad!
Well thank God for that, 'cause if I wasn't, this would probably have never worked.

I have both 323 gt and a festiva sitting at my house right now. I was going to build it into a ice racer. I think the project is stupid now after I have done some research. The trannies just can't handle the power. Then there is no aftermarket support, which sucks. I already have enough problems finding parts for my 1 gen CRX. I may build a fast little street car to get spending tickets and cheat death a little.

SHOgun, Renault R5 Turbo . . . Then there's the 3G Civic with the Acura Legend V6 in the back.
It's amazing what you can do with a transverse-mounted driveline . . .
