The cv shafts are finally the weakest link in my drag car setup. I popped at least one during my launch tonight and now I am on the hunt for a much stronger setup. I am currently running stock 86 Si shafts (ew4 engine stock front hubs). I am willing to change hubs and/or differentials or make some hybrid shafts if I could come up with something that could handle drag launches. Any one tried anything or have any ideas?

Thanks,
-tony

Are you sure they were stock? My advise is to find an axle shop and ask them (in person) what could be done to "beef them up" Raxle's have a good product (If you can afford it) Most axle shops have the info, to allow you to get the quality in the part you are utilizing.

If you are near a college, see if the engineering dept sends out their axles for their annual F1/cart project. Talk to them and see if they source out their drive axles. Then talk to that buisness. Axle shops love boasting about wins with their axles, even if it isn't in the mainstream, or for profit.

The entire tool selection at Sears or the contents of a Snap-On truck will do you no good if you do not know how to use them.

I'll second that! My Raxles axles are the best damn axles I have ever ran! Nicely balance, and can take some severe beating at the track, and work great for daily driving (yup, tested here with a b series motor).

i helped my friend with his b16 swap in his 88 crx for which we used some hybrid axles from raxles and they do look like good axles if you were just swapping the engine and driving on the street, but they didn't seem to be any beefier than stock axles. I was looking for something with bad-ass joints that can handle 5000 rpm launches with 24.5x8 slicks.

maybe some joints like this turbo magazine article on stock shafts?

Well, mine have been taking a good beating for the past year now. Not a crack in the boots, not a click or grind, and seem to be very balanced.

Then again, when I called them up, I told them that I was going to be getting atleast 200whp, so they may of made mine a bit more beefy than normal. Which I don't mind. But mine were definetly alot more beefier than the stock ones we pulled off.

how about a welded diff and 80A polyurethane filled stock mounts...
still broke 'em...
the funny part is I ran all day on the slicks and then I switched to some larger diameter BFG drag radials and broke on the launch.
