Hey guys, not sure where this fit under posting, but I started studying electronics and I came across this and thought I'd share. I think initially his set up weighs less than a pound, but then he adds a lithium iron battery to allow the car to be able to sit longer due to capacitor discharge. I was thinking this had a lot of potential and that this set up could be manipulated and rearrange to fit in a lot more places that a battery could not, like the windsheild cowl.....I may try something similar with some capacitors I have from work

To be honest, with the size and capacity of some of the lightweight Lithium Ion batteries out there, I just don't see how this option would be worth the hassle.  If the car doesn't start on the first pull, you have to recharge your capacitors.  If you want to avoid that happening, you have to install a hybrid cap/batt combo?... at that point, I'd just stick with a lower CCA lightweight LI battery and be done with it.

And we're willing to bet that the CRX won't be at the bottom of the short list--particularly if the CRX in question is an Si."

How often does your car not start on the first time? Mine fires right up and im guessing that there is enough charge there to get at least 2-3 starts, maybe more, but maybe your ruuning high compression and there is a bigger amp draw, then just add more caps. Caps are quick to recharge, it would not be hard to make something that plugs into the wall to recharge them in 10 min or less, or find a friendly samaritan to help you out, or just get AAA. It is a risk, but when i looked up racing batteries the smallest one i could find was about 7 lbs, maybe there is one smaller? I think with the small Li battery, this one might be 2-3 lbs. What i like most about it is that it is small and can be hidden elsewhere. I never liked the idea of having a battery on the inside of my car or in the back of my car in case i got rearended. I could see if you just drag raced and didnt need the alternator, the lithium battery might be the better choice because that charge in the caps is not going to last long, but then again you never know. Thank you for your response though
