My '84 Dx Is Going To Hotrod Drag Week

06 March 2017 - 01:53 AM

I posted this on the Facebook page, but I figured the forum is a great place to ask as well.

As of Saturday morning after battling unresponsive servers, I am registered and will be taking my bone stock California sold,1.3L'84 Civic DX to Hotrod's Drag Week, because I can dangit.

I'll be driving from Sacramento, CA to Cordova, IL along I-80E, and I have some questions for y'all. They're large and varied, and I couldn't decide which subforum to put them in, so I threw em in General. Mods, if it needs to move, I completely understand.

1. What do you guys think I should preemptively replace on the car? It's got 186,000 miles on the 1.3L and four speed, standard maintenance given on it by the previous single owner since new till about 2008 when she stopped driving it. I got it running decent about a month and a half ago after a carb rebuild and fluids change. I've replaced the cap, rotor, plugs and plug wires, igniter, timing belt and water pump, the fuel filter and fuel line to the tank, one CV boot and another one is going to be replaced soon.

2. What parts would the 3G gurus think I should take with me, and more importantly, what specialty tools that would be possibly necessary yet difficult to find at a parts store?

3. I'm planning on running M&H 8.0/22.0/13.0 slicks on the fronts (the race rules that it must have slicks on drive tires), but I'm still trying to find the proper offset for wheels so I can use the stock brakes. If anybody could help me with that, that'd be great.

4. Last but most importantly, are there any folks along the travel and race route that would be willing to give me their contact information so I can call them if I need parts or advice? I'm thinking 3G/1G parts are going to be a little harder to find in the midwest than parts for Chevy's. The race is going to be in Missouri, Illinois, and Wisconsin

Thanks loads, and I'll make sure to keep you guys updated during the prep and especially the race!
