Try this. and yes it works very very well.

Also if your just using regular engine oil your doing yourself no favors. sure it works but has no friction qualities to aid in synchro operation.

Honda manual fluid works OK but nothing like GM Synchromesh Modified. (has to be the Modified)

Well I'm currently running the Honda manual tranny fluid in it, but I kinda had my doubts about it when I rebuilt and inspected the tranny again and again.
Does it really work? What will it do for me?

Well the first things I would ask is

1. Who rebuilt it? My brother is a master mechanic , but never rebuilt a manual transmission before. He did his first transmission and it grinds like hell.

2. What fluid are you running? I recommend Pennzoil synchromesh.

3. what clutch setup are you running and is your clutch adjusted properly?

I had a rebuilt transmission by ultracare honda in my 85 si turbo running 11psi and never had an issue.

CG transmissions are bullet proof.. Something is wrong in the equation and I don't think its the "power"

BTW: Save some money and but the pennzoil. It is the exact same fluid from the same company as GM buys it. GM just costs a whole lot more .

1. I've owned and ran one of these trannys for over 10 years. I've rebuilt them many times before without any issues. This tranny has been rebuilt by myself and a mechanic friend of mine who also has the same car with the same engine. I know that this isn't the issue.
2. The fluid that I'm running is the oem Honda tranny fluid, which I'm starting to think is the problem.
3. My clutch is a center force dual friction and is adjusted properly. I've also tried readjusting it and nothing made a difference
I agree with you that it is bulletproof and isn't a power issue. I'm thinkin the fluid I'm running is the issue.

The Pennzoil synchromesh is also great stuff.

does it grind in all gears?

if so it's not the fluid.

Might be that the clutch isn't completely disengaging but hanging on just a bit.

Does the CG tranny have a pilot bearing? might be sticking (happened to me last summer pilot bearing seized)

Hey Mark
No, it doesn't grind in all gears. Just 3rd and reverse. And if I drive it gently its fine. It's only when I hammer on it that it grinds. And no, it doesn't have a pilot bearing.
I called a gm dealership down here and they have that fluid in stock. Am I better to run that or run the pennzoil?
I not to concerned on the price, just want it to work right.
I've googled it and there's so many guys that rave about the friction modified gm synchromesh fluid.

Reverse will always grind, unless you wait a few seconds to put it into R gear after putting the clutch in.

it gives it a some time for the main shaft to slow down before you put it in gear.

As for the pennzoil I have no personal experience.

I've only used a the friction modified gm synchromesh fluid.

It was on a B16A Tranny which was rapped and left for dead. It was grinding in the first four gears.

After I used the synchromesh it was almost 100%

Pennzoil and GM synchromesh is the EXACT same fluid from the same company/ tap my friend (it really is). GM just charges a whole lot more. so if you like wasting money buy the GM fluid.

Make sure you run 100% pure and do not mix.

I hope this helps ... Oh. and give it a while before it bonds. maybe 100 miles or so.

I could not find the Pennzoil with Friction Modified.

I am not disputing the Pennzoil and GM Synchromesh being the same.

Well, it's only $15 a quart at the gm dealer. I'll probably just end up going with that just to be safe.

Just remember it has to be "modified". if not it's only half as good.

Picked up 3 quarts from the dealership today.

I'll throw it in the ole girl this weekend and see how it goes. The transmission has felt rough lately. I have been running just castrol 10w-30 as honda calls for.

Joseph

Wow, I must say so far this stuff is earning its price of 14$ a quart. I have had a faint 5th gear whine from the accord 5th gear swap for the past 20,000 miles or so. I only have about 40 miles on the gearbox with the GM fluid in it and the gear whine is gone! Also, the gearbox feels super smooth compared to the way it used to feel.

All in all, I would highly recommend this fluid.

Thanks for the heads up!

Joseph
