I don't know if there transmission's your problem, but on the visible SIDE of the transmission, near the bottom, there's a plug with a square hole in it. I don't remember if it's 3/8 or 1/2 in., it's one of those two sizes, 3/8 I think. Set your ratchet to the 'loosen' setting, stick the the stub (whatever the thing you normally put the socket on is called) and turn. You may need a breaker bar, a small three inch extension, and an adapter (since most breaker bars I've seen are 1/2), depending on how tight it's in there. You'll have to get a hose and a funnel though to put the new OIL in. Our cars use motor oil (check a manual, I think it's regular 10W/40). Just a tip from my experience, make sure your hose is nice and loose in the fill hole, since the place where you put it in is very big. If your hose is too tight and oil can't leak out around it, you'll only realize that you've put too much in when the funnel gets a pool of oil that won't flow, and at that point, when you take out the hose, a shitload of excess oil will come spilling out of not only the hose but the fill hole. No biggie, just a mess, and a waste of good motor oil (I think I wasted a whole quart that way).

If you want to dump the old oil first, the drain plug is below the fill plug on the same size, it's a regular bolt/plug, 17 or 19 mm I think, you can figure it out.

I would say do as CarbRacer1987 said, and check you tranny oil, only I beleave he got his fill, and drain discriptions mixed up, the fill hole is right behind the right hand side CV joint, with a hex head, not a squar hole, the drain plug is the square hole, I'm pretty sure.

other problems you might want to check, is wheel bearings... jack each wheel up, and spin it, and wiggle it for free play, it should be smooth as butter, but normaly wheel bearings whine at higher speeds, not lower speeds, and another way to test them is to hold the clutch in and let off the gas, so you coast, if your noise goes away, then I would say it's your tranny, if it is still there, then it's most likely a wheel bearing.

i have a similar noise on my 87 si, it sounds supercharged or like it has a gear drive timing set when u get the motor over 2500rpm, even with the tranny in neutral

Mine makes all kinds of whines and grinds when in gear, but still shifts perfectly. I'll be putting another one in soon. I dunno the condition of the tranny though.. so i am taking a chance. Watch, it won't make any noise, but I'll be missing reverse or something.. go figure.

It's a bitch to refill the tranny, but Wal Mart and other places sell a transmission fill tube that screws onto quart sized oil bottles. Then you have to squeeze the bottle to get it in.

to me that sounds like a bad bearing, or maybe even water pump, check the timing belt tention, and alternator belt tention, if it's getting loud in neutral, then it's most likely not the tranny.

Sounds like you have a missing/faulty/disconnected radio interference suppressor. Its a small black box (about the size of your thumbnail) with two wires, that plugs into wires in the harness right next to the ignition coil.

Its kinda cool, with my car I like to annoy my friends by switching to a random AM station, cranking the stereo, and driving the crap out of the car..... sounds like a NES game, its hilarious.

A disconnected suppressor basically allows ignition sparks to interfere with radio reception, because of the waves generated by high voltage, and your radio picks up those pulses instead, which is why it sounds RPM related.... it is.

Cheers,
Mark

do you have an aftermarket radio, and/or and amplifier

that's incredably (sp?) common and it really is just a bad ground on the aftermarket radio or amplifier, and, if it's amplified, and you definately have a good ground, put a ground loop isolator on the rca cables, that should take the noise out
play me loud, just don't blow me

My tranny is making noise and I was told that is was going to go out......Another thing is they think it is my tranny to because it is knocking very bad....I hat it....This was cause by the previous owner put a oversided pressure plate in and it cracked my tranny casing.....I found that out because I had to replace the clutch....It pissed me off cause Now I have to get a new tranny.....
